Partnership with Teachers College Reading & Writing Program Continues

Daily writing time is one of the cornerstones of the Teachers College Reading & Writing Project, the landmark literacy program that KLSD elementary schools are partnering with for the second year. 

All elementary students have started the unit on narrative writing. Step inside Ms. Wolken's fifth grade class for a look.


Middle School Teacher Named Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert

Marcia Daley-Savo, sixth grade social studies and English language arts teacher at John Jay Middle School, has been named a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert for the second year in a row.

John Jay Middle School's technology curriculum includes units of study on coding, architecture, sustainability, robotics, and engineering. 

Five John Jay Students Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Congratulations, Kailas Amin, Lane Carbaugh, Samuel Chen, Kaley Mamo, and Katherine Ricca!

Learning Caf é: When the news enters the classroom 

Our Learning Cafés, moderated by Superintendent Andrew Selesnick, give parents, teachers, and administrators the opportunity to think together about a complex question .  On October 11, we'll be thinking about how, why, and when it is and is not helpful and necessary to address world events in school. Given the tumultuous times in which we're living, we hope you'll consider joining us for this evening event.
