On Tuesday, October 10, the Foundation and
Northern Trust co-hosted a seminar titled,
Giving With Purpose: Savvy Strategies to Achieve Your Goals at
Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton. The event was attended by more than 40 guests and featured an in-depth discussion with
Suzanne Shier, Northern Trust's wealth planning practice executive and chief strategist/tax counsel.
Mike Sitrick, Foundation vice president for advancement, moderated the program.
Shier discussed strategies to help donors give more purposefully and shared ideas on how to transmit giving values to the next generation. She also shared her thoughts on year-end giving in the current economic environment with the uncertainty of potential tax reform and answered our guests' philanthropy-related questions.

On Wednesday, October 25, the Foundation hosted a special orientation for its four newest trustees and three committee members. We were pleased to welcome Trustees
Bill Blum,
Denise Horne,
John Kaiser, and
Dorothy O'Reilly; and Committee members
Adam Hill, Financial Operations;
Juliana Maller, Next Generation Initiative; and
Peter Noronha, Bright & Early DuPage Initiative.
Staff members provided an overview of the Foundation's history, vision and mission; explained how the Board of Trustees, committee and staff structure works; and discussed the roles and responsibilities of the advancement, finance and program departments. Our thanks to all who attended. We are excited to have you on board!

On Saturday, October 14, a group of Foundation
Next Generation Initiative (NGI) volunteers donated their time and assisted
Family Shelter Service (FSS) by cleaning, sorting and organizing one of its confidential shelter sites. In addition to cleaning, NGI volunteers repaired several chairs, tables, rocking chairs and other toys.
Lauren DeSimone, FSS' director of advancement, provided a tour
of the facility and an overview of the organization's work. Thank you to all who volunteered!

On Thursday, October 26, the Foundation was thrilled to honor several of our dedicated volunteers as part of Giving DuPage's Volapalooza event, a special countywide recognition breakfast held at Bobak's Signature Events in Woodridge, which celebrated the efforts of scores of community volunteers who give generously of their time and talents to our area's not-for-profits.

More than 200 people attended the recent Community Connections Night in the Willowbrook Corner community where participants received family support and education on the coalition's executive functioning initiative.

| Bright & Early DuPage Update |
Through our
Bright & Early DuPage initiative, the Foundation is helping local communities develop collaborative systems to ensure that DuPage children are ready to succeed when they enter kindergarten. Since the initiative's launch in 2012, the Foundation's financial investments and leadership have served as a major catalyst in changing the overall landscape of e
arly childhood care and education in DuPage County.

Recipients of Community Needs Grants
from the Foundation are required to submit final reports within one year describing the impact of the funding they rec
eived.
UCP Seguin of Greater Chicago was awarded a $15,000 grant in 2016 to support the Building Bridges to the Future Transition Program in DuPage County. The program facilitates the transition into adulthood of developmentally-disabled students (ages 14-25) by providing coaching, linkages to financial, medical, and legal resources, and adult services training experiences.
