E-Courier for Sunday, November 5, 2017

- THIS WEEK -

November 5-11

Daylight Saving Time Ends
Sunday, November 5 | 2 AM
Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 AM this Sunday. Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed Saturday night. "Falling back" means you will get an extra hour to sleep Sunday morning (and if you don't set your clocks, you will show up for Sunday school or church an hour early!) but also means that it will be darker earlier in the evening.

Deacons' Mercy Offering
Sunday, November 5
Each month, on the day of the Lord's Supper, the deacons collect a special offering. The special offering for November will be collected this Sunday and is the PCA Women's Love Offering which directly benefits the young women of Covenant College through the support of a new position in the Covenant Chapel Department. The department is hiring a chapel associate for discipleship, whose primary focus will include ministering to the young women on Covenant's campus.

GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays
Tuesday, November 7 | 7 PM
For those who are grieving a loved one's death during this season, we are hosting a seminar, Surviving the Holidays, on November 7, at 7 PM in the worship center, room 211. Wondering how you will survive the weeks surrounding Thanksgiving and Christmas? Are you dreading these holidays, knowing that everything has changed and that happy memories from past years can't be recreated? In this GriefShare seminar, you'll learn how to deal with the many emotions you'll face during the holidays, what to do about traditions and other coming changes, helpful tips for surviving social events, and how to discover hope for your future. For more information and to RSVP for this seminar, please contact Mary Jo Culver. More information about the Surviving the Holidays curriculum can be found at griefshare.org/holidays.

AHG Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser
Thursday, November 9 | 5:30-7 PM
The American Heritage Girls (AHG) at Christ Covenant will have a spaghetti dinner and silent auction to raise funds to help ship Operation Christmas Child boxes overseas and to support the girls in an overnight trip to the zoo. The spaghetti dinner will be held in the Community Life Center. Take-out and gluten free options are available. Please order your meal at bit.ly/AHG-spaghetti.

Men's Intensive Discipleship Program
Thursdays, November 9, 16, 30, and December 7 | 6:30-8:30 PM
The Men's Ministry is hosting the final in the 2017 series of Men's Intensive Discipleship Program, beginning this Thursday. In this final session, we will go back to the basics and consider the significance of our Presbyterian identity, including implications for our discipleship that many of us have not previously considered. On occasion, it's important to go back to the things that define us and consider them from a new angle. Join us in the Community Life Center chapel beginning this Thursday, November 9, at 6:30 PM. For more information, see the Men's Ministry webpage.

Senior Adults Ladies Monthly Luncheon
Friday, November 10 | 11:30 AM
All senior adults (Coram Deo community) are invited to join us for a great lunch and fellowship at Trio's Restaurant (10709 McMullen Creek Parkway).

Thanksgiving Feast
Sunday, November 12 | following morning worship
This year's Thanksgiving Feast will be held in the Community Life Center on Sunday, November 12, following morning worship. Join us for a time of great fellowship and delicious food! Christ Covenant will provide the meat, cranberry relish, rolls, and drinks. Our church families bring the side dishes.
We ask that each family would pick up a pan (with a recipe and drop-off instructions) in one of our lobby areas on November 5 before or after the morning service.
If you would like to help serve at the feast, please go to our SignUpGenius page. If you misplaced your recipe, see the Thanksgiving Feast announcement at christcovenant.org/news. Note that it is important that everyone signs up so that we know how much of our main dishes to prepare.
We will have a canned food drive that day to benefit the Matthews Help Center. Please bring your canned food to the morning service and drop it off outside the main lobby doors.

Help Build a Habitat House!
Saturday, November 18 (final CCC build day)
Join us as we assist in building a Habitat House for the Kingombe family in the Crestdale community in Matthews!  Our final Christ Covenant Church build day is November 18 (7 volunteers needed). No construction background is necessary, but builders must be at least 17 years old (or 16, accompanied by a parent). On that day we need to provide 25 bag lunches for the site volunteers. Children are welcome to help prepare these meals!

If you are interested in serving or having your group serve, please contact Karen Chambers.

Do You Need Help with Housework or Yardwork?
Every year, church members and families partner with Campus Outreach to help get our students to the Campus Outreach New Year's Conference. The Lord has used this annual conference in many different ways and we would hate for our students to miss out because of finances. Help a UNCC student get to the Campus Outreach New Year's Conference by hiring one to come help you with anything around your house! If you are interested, contact Abby Minnick at abigail.minnick@campusoutreach.org or 201-669-9618.

 Our Community

Let Them Soar 5K
Sat., November 4 | 8 AM
Christ Covenant Church and the His Abilities ministry is excited to host the Let Them Soar 5K, a fundraiser to support the work of The Exceptional Foundation. We are excited to be supporting the good work that TEF is doing to bless our community by creating a special place for those with special needs. We hope that this will provide a positive experience and connection point with Christ Covenant Church for many outside our church community - a possible bridge to the church and to Christ for those whose lives have been touched by disability or runners and participants who love this community.

Sign up to run or volunteer to help or just show up and support this event. For details on the race and a link to register, click here. You can participate by yourself, join a team, or even be a "Spirit Runner" (you get a t-shirt and don't have to run!). Questions? Contact Pastor Dave Baxter.

Our Tithes and Gifts
Thank you for your tithes and gifts to all of the ministries of Christ Covenant. Don't forget to take advantage of our secure online giving. Please continue to pray for God's provision this calendar year. As a reminder, the Our Heritage pledge fulfillment period goes through December 2017.
