Public Parking - New Parking App Parking just got easier
thanks to a new mobile app called Parker. The app helps drivers find available public parking in downtown Sarasota, Southside Village, St. Armands Circle and
Lido Beach. It's free and now available for Apple and Android cell phones and tablets.
Developed by the company Streetline, the app collects data from sensors near parking spaces and provides a real-time map on your mobile device showing on-street parking availability.
For an overview of the app, check out this video:
Parker also provides useful data for our Parking Operations Division, allowing enhanced management of public parking. Plus, it's a great way to cut down on congestion, reduce carbon emissions and make parking easier than ever before.

Newtown Alive - Mobile App Available One of the elements of a long term project to preserve the history of the 100+ year old Newtown community is now complete. A free mobile app, called Newtown Alive, is now available for download on your smart phone or
tablet.
The app is a companion piece to the Heritage Trail that was recently unveiled in Newtown with 15 markers providing information about historic aspects of the community from healthcare to commerce to education and athletics.
A detailed timeline depicting the history of Newtown is available on the app. Also, lifelong residents of this predominantly African-American neighborhood share their memories of family, community and integration.
The Newtown Alive app is available at the Apple App store and Google Play at no cost.
In 2015, the City Commission provided funding and created the Newtown Conservation Historic District Task Force to work with a consultant to ensure Newtown's history would be preserved. This community project included compiling information and photos, plus conducting extensive video interviews with many longtime residents
