Koinonia Coffee
On October 29, from 9:30-10:45am, the Mission Outreach Committee will be hosting a coffee to raise awareness of the growing opioid crisis in DuPage County and its relationship to depression.
 
Our speakers will be DuPage County States Attorney Bob Berlin, DuPage County Undersheriff Frank Bibbiano and a representative of NAMI and one of their clients.  There will be an opportunity for questions and how we might be more aware of the signs of the usage among family and friends.

First Presbyterian Church Blood Drive
Sunday, November 12 from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm in the Ministry Center. Patients in need depend on blood donors. We are thankful for you. Please choose to give this season! Every donor could save up to 3 lives. To make an appointment to donate, sign up online  or call 800 786-4483. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are always welcome. Photo ID is required.
Chancel Flowers
We are looking for one or two people to facilitate and organize our flower ministry.  The task includes: Once a year: putting out a sign up for donations then giving about 1 hour once each month: verifying the donations, emailing the order to the florist, emailing the donor names and dedications to staff for the bulletin and arranging for someone to put the flowers on the chancel each week.  For more information please contact:  Maryanne Kyle or call 630-213-8590

Food Pantry
The Food Pantry is requesting has many of the same items we collected this summer. They include any remaining garden produce, baby wipes and diapers in large sizes 4-6 and Pull-Ups, pineapple, women's personal products and tea. The new additions are bar soap, cereal and canned kernel corn.

Women's Bible Study
Please join Pastor Kyle as we gather together for Bible Study on the first Tuesday each month.  This year we will be studying " Cloud of Witnesses: The Community of Christ in Hebrews " as we delve into the Book of Hebrews.  10:00 a.m. in the Living Room.  Books are available in the church office for $10.

Using a PBS documentary that was filmed across Europe, we'll follow the dramatic story of Luther who reluctantly took on the most powerful institution of his day and won.

First Pres Preschool is accepting priority enrollment for the 2018-19 school year. Priority registration is open to Church members and returning families beginning November 1st and ending November 30th. Our preschool classes usually fill during priority registration or soon after so if you are a Church member or attending our Church and thinking about enrolling in our preschool, now is the time to contact the preschool  or call 630-668 5147 x27

Fearless Generosity
You will be receiving your 2018 giving card in the mail this coming week. As we have heard from Pastor Kellen and other members, we can demonstrate Fearless Generosity by making our faith visible. We give back what we are given from a loving and generous God. Please complete a giving card and bring it with you on Generosity Sunday, October 29 th . If you are unable to participate in worship, you can mail your card back to the church office or complete a pledge card/set up online giving on the website. Giving cards are also available in the pews and at the welcome desk. Our hope is to build on the positive momentum of giving in recent years and invite everyone to give boldly. Every pledge & gift counts!

Mission USA
Please join members of First Pres on November 7 as we support Mission USA's Bridge Ministry. We will leave church at 5:45 p.m. and drive into the city meeting at Bethel Lutheran Church. We will meet, greet, worship with and serve dinner to a congregation of folks fresh out of jail or drug rehab.

Men's First Light Collaborative
On Saturday, 11/4, we start a 10 week study - Make Your Bed by Admiral William H. McRaven  (Author)
On May 17, 2014, Admiral William H. McRaven addressed the graduating class of the University of Texas at Austin on their Commencement day. Taking inspiration from the university's slogan, "What starts here changes the world," he shared the ten principles he learned during Navy Seal training that helped him overcome challenges not only in his training and long Naval career, but also throughout his life; and he explained how anyone can use these basic lessons to change themselves-and the world-for the better.
Breakfast starts at 7am next to the kitchen. Please contact  us to be sure we have enough bacon for all.
Wheaton College Christmas Concert
Once again, we are planning a First Pres contingent at the Wheaton College Christmas Concert.  If you haven't attended, do join us for this student concert of professional caliber which is a beautiful, and peaceful, way to start the Advent season.  If you have been before, you know it's a must-attend event.  We will be getting tickets for the Dec. 2 performance at 4 pm.  The ticket price is $18.  Those who are able can join us for dinner at Arrowhead Golf Course following the concert.  Please contact Nancy Cinatl by Oct. 17 at 630-690-2110  if you would like a ticket (and a dinner reservation).

Women's Ministry Meet the Author
Stop by for fellowship and info on Friday, October 27th from 4-6 pm.  Meet Melissa Bane Sevier, author of the Horizons Bible Study:  Cloud of Witnesses - The Community of Christ in Hebrews.  She will speak briefly about the years-long journey of a Horizons Bible Study from conception to publication.   Our communities surround us and support us today as they did in the time of Hebrews.  This idea guides her study of Hebrews.  Come for coffee, tea, or wine to connect with each other and the larger churchwide community.

Women's Ministry Fall Planting Event
Please join Women's Ministry to plant spring bulbs around the church on Saturday, November 11 from 9:00 am to noon (Rain date is Sunday, November 12 from noon to 3:00 pm).  A donation to support our beautification project can be made in memory or honor of someone special as well.  We will be on the ramp with the sign-up sheet and donation forms Sunday! We are very eager to beautify the church during the Easter season and look forward to participating in this mission together.

LOGOS is looking for people to come and share worship skills with the children.
This fun experience would be for a 4 - 8 week commitment from 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. We supply the tools: piano, CD player, bells, tone chimes, drums, guitars, boom whackers and more!

WF Small Group Fun Night! 10/22 6-8:15pm
The student leadership team has a fun night of small group games planned! We'll have a Chopped Challenge, play some chill table games, have group costume judging, and finish the night with worship and prayer. Don't miss this chance to bond with your small group!

Last night our LOGOS middle schoolers went out after dinner and collected 60 bags of non-perishable food for Christmas Sharing.
