At EDC's Regular Monthly Meeting of the Board of Directors this past Tuesday:
EDC Board of Directors unanimously adopts resolution of support for statewide proposal number 3 that will create a land account to address specific public health and safety concerns for use by towns, villages and counties within the Adirondack Park Agency having no viable alternative than using forest preserve land.

Proposal would change how communities in the Adirondack Park make changes to land
HORICON, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Many people know of the Constitutional Convention ballot proposal and the one that would take away pensions from government officials convicted of corruption.
There is a third ballot proposal that is being left somewhat forgotten.
"There are 130,00 permanent residences in the Adirondack Park and about 130 little communities," John Sheehan, Director of Communications for the Adirondack Council, said.
Yet if the town officials of these communities want to make any changes to the land around them, they have to go through the painstakingly long process of creating a constitutional amendment that has to be approved on a statewide ballot.

First wave of downtown revitalization projects coming soon
GLENS FALLS - Programs to help people start new businesses and allow existing merchants to upgrade their facades are set to be rolled out late this year as part of the city's $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
The DRI contains $600,000 set aside for the Glens Falls Downtown Revitalization Fund, according to EDC Warren County Executive Edward Bartholomew. The Local Development Corporation will be administering the fund.
This is the first of the projects using the economic development funding the city received from the state. Also in the pipeline is planning for the city arts trail and soliciting proposals for the year-round farmers market building, which is the centerpiece of the redevelopment.

THUNDER VICTORIOUS IN SEASON OPENER, 5-4 OVER BRAMPTON
Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder kicked off the 2017-18 season in exciting fashion as they defeated the Brampton Beast by a 5-4 final in front of 4,021 fans on Saturday at Cool Insuring Arena.
The Thunder kicked off the scoring early as Troy Bourke capitalized with his team on the man advantage to open up a 1-0 lead. After he took possession of the puck from Ty Loney, Bourke banked a shot off the right skate of Brampton goaltender Michael McNiven and into the back of the net for the first goal of the 2017-2018 season. Bourke's tally was his first in a Thunder jersey, while Loney, dating back to last season, extending his scoring streak to four games.

Merkosky elected into AHL Hall of Fame
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Glenn Merkosky, a former player and coach for the Adirondack Red Wings, was named Tuesday as part of the Class of 2018 to enter the American Hockey League Hall of Fame.
Merkosky played 10 AHL seasons. After four seasons with Binghamton and Maine, he joined Adirondack for the 1985-86 season. That year he scored 24 goals and had 57 points in 59 games, helping the team to a Calder Cup title.
