MARKET ALERTS.

Transition--the movement of major growing areas from California to points as far south as Yuma Arizona is underway, and will continue through early December. During this time, certain crops are more susceptible to disruptions in supply and quality. Currently no issues are reported, outside of the product alerts listed below.

LETTUCE LEAF:  Quality is still fair on Iceberg and Romaine , although pricing has eased from prior weeks. For the best quality, consider using Green or Red Leaf.

ORANGES:   Supplies of Valencia Oranges are extremely short, and pricing is far higher than normal. This shortage is expected to continue well into autumn, until the Navel crop comes in. Consider using apples and pears as a hand fruit option.

BROCCOLI:   Supplies of Whole and Crown Broccoli are improved, with pricing lower than last week and good quality. Florets are still in limited supply.

CAULIFLOWER:  Whole head and florets are a little more expensive than last week; quality is good.

We caught up with Patrick Collins, Senior Director of Farm Management for Dole Fresh Vegetables to learn a bit about Dole's history with transition in Huron, the labor challenges being faced, harvesting innovations, and what kind of crop quality we can expect to see.

MARTIN'S QUALITY EGGS.

Lester Martin has been a valued partner of ours for many years. Last month our sales team visited Martin's Eggs on Lancaster County, PA for a tour and demonstration. We found it very informative and can wait to share what we've learned.

Martin's participates in the PEQAP (Pennsylvania Egg Quality Assurance Program) which has the highest safety standards in the nation. Do you see how high the yolk is on the image below? That's AA Diner Quality!
