Dear Colleagues,

As the semester continues, it is important for us to continue our important discussions about the College budget and how we formulate priorities. We certainly have special constraints because of the state and University budgets. These discussions about how we prioritize are essential to the mission of our College.

Next week -- Tuesday October 24, 4pm (Humanities Building Rm 1006) -- we will have a Town Hall meeting for all interested faculty and staff. This will be a chance to learn and communicate about the College budget, setting priorities, and navigating strategic growth in constrained financial times. I will summarize our progress to date as well a framework for planning that allows us to fulfill the vision and mission we laid out to be an aspirational liberal arts college within a great public research university.

The opportunities for us ahead are many, and yet the challenges we have been facing are significant. I appreciate everyone's passionate commitment to our excellence as a public research university, commitment to the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, and commitment to the community of scholars that exists in this College. I appreciate the spirited and candid expression of ideas at our recent meetings of the A&S Senate and the University Senate. This experience has tested us and will continue to do so. But, we will best pass through it as we always have -- together.

I hope to see you there on Tuesday.

With regards,
Sacha
