Confidence Project Club
Girls Grades 6-8

The Confidence Project is a program for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls.  The program was created by Rachel Mercer, School Counselor and Misty Elder, Master Taekwondo Instructor.  The mission is to inspire and empower young ladies at a challenging time in their lives to help them find and develop inner strengths.  In turn this discovery will help them become more confident and independent young women.

The goal of Confidence Project is to plant seeds to start a journey of empowerment and discovery.  Mrs. Mercer challenges them to look inward to find their passions and strength.  Master Elder teaches them how to develop and master their physical strengths to overcome challenges.

The Confidence Program will meet twice a month on Mondays.  It is a two-fold program.  On one day, we will work on developing inner and core strength.  On the other day, we will bring in professional women in traditionally male professions.  These women will tell their stories of how they found their strengths to overcome obstacles and build confidence.  Also, they will teach the young ladies new skills to help them feel more confident and independent.

We will meet from 3 to 4 pm on the following Mondays:
Oct 16 & 30
November 13 & 27
December 4 & 18
January 8 & 22
February 12 & 26

SBDM - Site Based Decision Making Council
Minority Parent Election

The school's Site Based Decision Making council, (SBDM) consists of 3 teachers, 2-3 parents and 1 principal.  SBDM has the responsibility to set school policy and make decisions outlined in statue, which should provide a safe environment to enhance student achievement.  Terms of office are for one-two years and the time commitment includes one monthly meeting during the school year, some special meetings, and a training, (usually during the summer).  Each year, our school parents/guardians elect parent/guardian members to join the SBDM council.
Summit View Academy has more than 8% student minority population and is seeking a minority parent/guardian to join SVA SBDM.
Qualifications:   Minority is defined as "American Indian; Alaskan native; African-American; Hispanic, including persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Central- or South-American origins; Pacific Islander; or other ethnic group underrepresented in the school" according to the SBDM statute [KRS 160.345(1)(a)].
A parent council member shall be a parent, step parent, foster parent or legal guardian of a student attending the school during the council member's term of office. A parent is ineligible if he/she is an employee or a relative of an employee (father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife, son, daughter, aunt, uncle, son-in-law, daughter-in-law) of that school or for the district central office, or a local school board member or the spouse of a school board member.
Please e-mail our SVA PTSA President, Jill Sluder,  [email protected] , if you are interested in serving as a minority parent/guardian on SVA's SBDM Council.
Summit View Academy is a School-wide
Title I School  . . . What does this mean?

This program provides financial assistance through state educational agencies (SEAs) to local educational agencies (LEAs) and public schools with high numbers or percentages of low-income children to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic content and student academic achievement standards.
LEAs target the Title I funds they receive to public schools with the highest percentages of children from low-income families. Unless a participating school is operating a schoolwide program, the school must focus Title I services on children who are failing, or most at risk of failing, to meet state academic standards. Schools enrolling at least 40 percent of children from low-income families are eligible to use Title I funds for schoolwide programs designed to upgrade their entire educational programs to improve achievement for all students, particularly the lowest-achieving students.

In school year 2009-10, more than 56,000 public schools across the country used Title I funds to provide additional academic support and learning opportunities to help low-achieving children master challenging curricula and meet state standards in core academic subjects. For example, funds support extra instruction in reading and mathematics, as well as special preschool, after-school, and summer programs to extend and reinforce the regular school curriculum.  That same year, Title I served more than 21 million children. Of these students, approximately 59 percent were in kindergarten through fifth grade, 21 percent in grades 6-8, 17 percent in grades 9-12, 3 percent in preschool, and less than 1 percent ungraded.

Title I is designed to help students served by the program to achieve proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards. Title I schools with percentages of low-income students of at least 40 percent may use Title I funds, along with other federal, state, and local funds, to operate a "schoolwide program" to upgrade the instructional program for the whole school.  Schoolwide programs must use instructional strategies based on scientifically based research and implement parental involvement activities.

October 3, 2017
Dear Parent or Guardian:
The educators in The Kenton County School District are committed to providing a quality instructional program for your child. This letter is just one of the ways of keeping you informed of the educational commitment of our schools and our district.
Our district receives federal funds for Title I programs as a part of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). Under NCLB, you have the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child's teacher(s). If you request this information, the district will provide you with the following:
1. Whether the teacher has met the state requirements for licensure and certification for the grade levels and subject matters in which the teacher provides instruction;
2. Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualification or licensing criteria have been waived;
3. The college major and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree; and
4. Whether your child is provided services by paraeducators, and if so, their qualifications.
If you would like to request this information, please contact me by phone at 344-8888 ext. 171 or by email at [email protected]. Please include your child's name, the name of the school your child attends, the names of your child's teacher(s) and an address or email address where the information may be sent.
