Red Ribbon Week
This week, Historic Anaheim celebrated Red Ribbon Week. On Monday, the students received Red Ribbon wristbands from the Orange County Sheriff's Department to serve as their pledge that they will live drug-free lives.

On Wednesday, our preschool through 4th grade students took pictures in front of their Red-Ribbon-themed doors. There were so many creative ideas out there! Check out all of our pictures of these amazing doors!

On Friday, to celebrate the final day of Red Ribbon Week, all of the students wore red.
News & Announcements
6th Grade Spelling Bee
On Tuesday, our 6th grade finalists participated in the 6th grade spelling bee. After words such as "clambering" and "committee" eliminated some talented contestants, the field was down to Jason D. and Aaron J. After battling for several rounds, Aaron finally won by spelling the word "sophomore" correctly.

Our top four finalists will compete in the junior high spelling bee on Friday, November 3. The top two students from this competition will compete in the Orange County Spelling Bee for a chance to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

Picture Makeup Day
Students who were not present on picture day will have the opportunity to take their photos on Monday, October 23. Please remember that formal dress needs to be worn on this day. This includes sweaters for students in grades junior kindergarten through 5th grade and ties for students in 6th through 8th grades.

Additionally, students who were unhappy with their original pictures may retake their photos on this day. If your student will be retaking his or her photo, please let your child's teacher know, or email [email protected]. Please include what you would like changed about the original photo. For example: "Please have Johnny take off his glasses."

Picture Orders
Please don't forget to order your school pictures! This can be completed online or by turning in the order form that you received along with your child's proof. The last day to order pictures is Wednesday, November 15.

Halloween Haunt

Our Halloween Haunt is just around the corner! It is going to be a night filled with music, games, and lots of fun! Please complete the  Presale Food/Entrance/Ticket Form, and turn it in by Tuesday, October 24.

Because the Halloween Haunt starts before school closes at 6:00 pm, please keep in mind that your child may not attend without a parent. All children must be signed out of school and then walked over to the event by a parent. If you have made other arrangements for another parent to take your child to the Halloween Haunt, please send a note with your child to let the front desk know who will be signing out your child. Arrangements can also be made by calling the front desk at (714) 563-4050.

Junior High Shadow Days at Fairmont Prep
In order for your child to better understand what an average day is like at Fairmont Prep, we encourage you to schedule a Shadow Day for him or her. Accompanied by one of Fairmont Prep's outstanding student ambassadors, your student will sit in on classes in his or her area of interest and spend time with peers to hear about day-to-day life at Fairmont Prep. Transportation to and from the junior high campus will be provided, and lunch will also be provided. Permission slips must be turned in to your campus assistant director at least four days before the scheduled Shadow Day, and your student will need to wear his or her regular required uniform on this day. We have one more Shadow Day option in October and another in early November. You can access more information by downloading our informational flyer, which includes the required permission slip. Please see your assistant campus director to sign up.

Marine Biology Students Gain Exciting Learning Experience on Field Trip
Fairmont Prep's marine biology students recently took a field trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach and the California State University, Long Beach Marine Biology Department.

At the aquarium, students puzzled out how to build their own filtration systems for aquariums. At CSU Long Beach, three different labs gave tours and introductions to their research: the famous Shark Lab, a toxic aquacology lab that studies the harmful effects of plastics on different types of cells, and a wetlands ecology lab that closely studies the beaches and lands closest to us.

Lastly, and most enjoyably, students wandered through a hands-on invertebrate lab, where 20-odd different species ---     starfish, sea urchins, crabs, sea slugs, starfish, sea anemones, and more ---        were on display for touching, handling, and looking through microscopes! A special thanks goes out to Professor Bruno Pernet, who coordinated the visit and set up the invertebrate lab for the students.
