Friday Night Oneg
We are proud to announce our first Friday night oneg of the year. The Friday
oneg program truly fosters a sense of community among the TABC family. Throughout the year, various rebbeim and families will host an oneg for the entire student body. The oneg allows for students to make new friends and share experiences outside of the regular school environment. It is truly inspiring to see how many of our students participate in the weekly oneg as they take some time on Friday nights to connect with their friends and rebbeim.

This week's oneg will take place at:

The Yablok Home
8:45 PM - 10:45 PM

We look forward to seeing our talmidim there!

AP Bio Investigates Enzyme Activity
AP Biology students investigated enzyme activity in a 3-day series of labs. They first did an experiment to observe how salivary enzymes break down starch into sugar. Next, they worked together to measure how efficiently catalytic enzymes break down toxic chemicals in our cells. They then worked in groups to design and perform their own experiments to analyze optimal pH and temperature conditions for these enzymes. The students had a great hands on experience and are now learning one of the most important parts of any science experiment - namely, how to critically analyze their results!

Pre-Sukkot Parent-Son Learning
Inspires Multiple Generations
The halls of TABC were filled with the beautiful sound of the transmission of the mesorah, as 100 people participated in a night of parent-son learning. After dinner, everyone engaged in inter-generational learning, as they prepared mekorot together. The evening culminated in a thought-provoking shiur by Rabbi David Einhorn. Ki Hem Chayenu V'orech Yamenu. Click here for more pictures.

Sukkot is a Time for Celebrations
at TABC
Sukkot has always been a chag replete with opportunities for TABC's students to remain connected to our yeshiva. TABC's talmidim fulfilled the mitzvah to be mekabel penai rabo bamoed on both sides of the Atlantic. Rabbi Daniel Fridman, Rabbi Jonathan Kessel, Rabbi Duvie Nachbar and Rabbi Ari Zahtz (with a special visit from Head of School Rabbi Asher Yablok) hosted their their Gemara shiurim in ttheir respective sukkot for food, Torah and fun. It was a night of Torah, singing and further strengthening of the rebbe-talmid bond for all of them. In Israel, the many TABC alumni learning there had a reunion with former TABC rebbe, Rabbi Nosson Rich. The relationship between rebbe and student continues to hold strong long after graduation. TABC Enhances Simchat Torah
at Home and Away
Simchat Torah represents a celebration of the past year's learning of Torah, very fitting for TABC's talmidim to celebrate it together. A group of 100 people joined together in TABC to daven, hear a shiur given by Rabbi Raphi Mandelstam, enjoy ruach-filled Hakafot  and partake in a festive Yom Tov  meal. Also, in what is becoming a yearly tradition, a large group of juniors and seniors represented TABC at the NCSY Kollel reunion hakafot in the Five Towns in NY. So many talmidim attended the program this past summer, both as shana aleph and shana bet participants, as well as several alumni who acted as advisors, that our school was a  force at the hakafot there. TABC rebbe Rabbi Yaakov Blau acted as the school liaison, joining our talmidim as they danced with pride and simchat haTorah... May it be a year of joy-filled Torah study.

Torah Academy of Bergen Country is proud to announce that in addition to our already named three Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists, four of our students, Adiel Felsen, Jacob Reinitz, Michael Schachter and Jacob Zinberg, have been named as "Commended Students in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.  Of the over 1.6 million students who entered the National Merit Scholarship program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test only about 34,000 Commended students throughout the nation have been recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Almost ten percent of this year's senior class has received recognition from the Merit Scholarship program.
SCI-SET has First Meeting
Wednesday of this week marked the first meeting of the year for TABC's SCI-SET club! The members of the Student Council on the Integration of Legislature in Space and Emerging Technologies gathered after school to discuss space-related news, such as the final dive of the Cassini probe into Saturn and the collision of two white dwarf stars that caused ripples in the fabric of spacetime to be detected here on earth. They debated the merit of government-funded space exploration and whether all fundamental laws of physics have already been identified. Snacks were eaten, and a good time was had by all. SCI-SET will meet next on November 15th, and the club is happy to accept new members.
TABC Participates in
Hidden Sparks Program
In our commitment to every child in the school, TABC will be participating in the award winning Hidden Sparks program, a school-based coaching and teacher training program to help us meet the diverse needs of all our students. As part of our partnership with Hidden Sparks, Dr. Michael Atlas, Director of Student Support and Susan Neumark, Director of the Learning Center, took a six-day training last year and will receive on-site mentoring this year as they hone their skills.

Parents can gain from our school's participation in Hidden Sparks through free monthly webinars on interesting and engaging topics from leading experts. This year's webinars, starting in October, focus on topics such as time management and building self-esteem.  Go to HiddenSparks.org to sign up for registration information.
Alumni Pride
Our alumni enjoyed a reunion in Israel over Sukkot, meeting up with each other and Rabbi Nosson Rich! For more pictures, click here.
