Trauma-Informed School District Approach Moves Forward
Board Member Rachele Espiritu tonight introduced a Trauma-Informed School District resolution, affirming the district's intent to "work in a strategic, culturally-responsive, strength-based, preventative way to best meet the needs of our diverse students, families and educators that mitigates the impact of trauma on the social emotional and academic growth of our students."
"We know that trauma has no boundaries ... traumatic events can happen to anyone. For that reason, I wanted to be sure that we as a school district are prepared to address the traumatic events that our students and adults are facing in their schools and communities," said Espiritu. "Tonight, I'm introducing a resolution to help us do that because I know Denver can be a leader in this area in the nation."
The resolution roots this work in the Whole Child, and reaffirms the board's support for ensuring all our students and educators feel supported, engaged, safe, healthy, challenged, and socially and emotionally intelligent.
The district will present a scope and sequence to the board in April. You can read the full resolution here.
