We are hoping for 100% involvement (as a walker or pledger!) Membership Ministry is providing lunch for us  directly after worship and before the walk at Farnsworth Park up Lake. Nurturing Humility
Exodus 33:12-23
 
Our text in worship this week is the story of Moses pleading with God for support and affirmation in guiding the people of Israel- for company on the wilderness journey that will prove to other tribes and all comers that Israel is a chosen people, the people of God. God offers compassion but also remains as our God, declaring that the people of Israel will be companioned by God - but neither Israel nor Moses will see the face of God! In a sermon entitled "Nurturing Humility," we will consider together what it means to recognize God but not control God, to be known but not to know our God in the sense of understanding or predicting Her Will or ways! To be faithful in any age, in any situation calls for us to submit ourselves to the work and direction of God, as best we know how, without knowing all the steps or understanding each of the "wherefores."  
 
Come join us for worship at 10AM in the Chapel - we invite you to wear a family-friendly costume and join us after worship for our Halloween Festival.

In worship this Sunday we will recognize our building manager Sallie McNair for her 15 years (and counting!) of service to our church!  We honor each of our employees in 5 year increments.  Please help us thank her for her ongoing work on our behalf to do all the work that it takes to fill and maintain this large facility. We are so grateful for Sallie's gifts and hard work! Thank you Sallie! 
 
Join us as we Our Halloween Festival will take place directly after worship in our parlors. We will begin with everyone who is interested heading upstairs for the Haunted room. We will also have a costume contest, crafts, activities and a potluck lunch. Please bring kid-friendly food or an entree. See you Sunday!

Visit folks who are housebound or recovering.  
Volunteer to be a liturgist or to help Nina in the office.

ALSO IN OCTOBER:
 
Picnic in the Park on Sunday Oct. 29th  - directly after worship at Farnsworth Park - up Lake Ave. above Altadena Drive at the corner of Lake and E. Mount Curve Ave. (not too far from the CROP Walk starting point for those walking). Lunch is provided by our Membership Ministry. Folks just need to bring a chair or a blanket and any sports equipment (frisbee, ball, etc.) 
CROP Walk - If you wish to donate on line you may do so at crophungerwalk.org and designate our church as the sponsoring organization. The walk begins at 1:30 from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church at 1879 N. Lake Ave. You may arrive early to check in and hear some speakers rally the crowd. The walk is a 5k. 
   
Flower Chart
 
 
We have the following openings to bring flower or "flour" for Sunday worship
(Dates that are open: 11/26, 12/3, 12/10,12/24, 12/31). If you sign up and give Nina $40 a beautiful live bouquet will be ordered for you. Or you may opt for the "flour" option which means that your $40 donation will be sent to a local hunger organization (LA Regional Food Bank) in your name and our wheat display will be on the altar. Please let Nina know when you sign up which option you would like.
 
All Saints Remembrance
On Sunday October 29th we will remember all who have passed away in the last year. Names will be ready during our prayer time. If you wish your loved one to be included, please email Nina in the church office at [email protected]  Chaplain Randy VanDeventer will be preaching this Sunday.

1. Ecclesiastical Council to Welcome and Celebrate First Congregational Church of Los Angeles as a member church of the United Church of Christ

2. Voting on Association Bylaw updates, copies to be sent out SOON.

3. "Stop Separating Immigrant Families: Some actions we may take" will be our program, which is a follow-up to our spring meeting program, with Rev. Andrew Schwiebert again guiding us.

Please plan to carpool since parking will be limited
