VIDEO: Watch Theodore Judah's piano-playing virtuoso! |
Nathan Zhang is a 5th grader at Theodore Judah Elementary, he spends part of his recess a few times a week playing the piano to first graders during their lunch time because he says adding music to their day would be great for them. The
video of him playing is going viral on social media.
Zhang has been playing piano since the age of 5, he is currently 10 and practices daily. He says he loves performing and playing the piano in front of people. He has also been playing the violin for 2 years. His music teacher with Folsom Cordova Unified School District is Mr. Leo Gravin.
Zhang said one of his best experiences performing was when he had the chance to play at Carnegie Hall, in New York. He entered an online contest called American Protege
and won the chance to play at Carnegie Hall in 2016, earning a Judges Distinction Award for his performance.

Cordova High students receive college offers at Historically Black Colleges and Universities Fair |
25 students from Cordova High attended the 18th annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities Fair held at Rio Americano High School on Sept. 14 - and some students received college admission on the spot.
The HBCU Recruitment Fair, sponsored by the nonprofit U-CAN Go to College, featured representatives from more than 35 schools including Spelman College, Morehouse College and Hampton University.
Counselors printed upperclassmen their transcripts so they were prepared for meeting with college recruiters.
The students were chaperoned by CHS staff members Veronica Cruz,
Nicholas McIntosh, Eric Mejia and Melody Smith-Williams.

VIDEO: Folsom Middle raises awareness for Breast Cancer |
Staff and students at Folsom Middle School wear pink every Friday in the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It has been a tradition at the school for the past seventeen years.
8th grade U.S. History Teacher Chris Matassa, is a Breast Cancer survivor and her passion is spreading awareness to help others. The school staff feels that way too.
The staff at the school feels it is important to raise awareness by wearing pink and having conversations about it. "We have some teachers that are breast cancer survivors, students families have been impacted by breast cancer. This a a way for us to show support for them, " said Matassa.
Students are also getting involved in spreading awareness and wearing pink on Fridays.

Runway 17 Fashion Show to benefit Folsom's Parks & Rec. inclusion project
You're invited! The Runway 17 project was created out of the need of providing inclusion to recreational opportunities to children with disabilities in the community.
The project will allow the City of Folsom to recruit and train counselors to support children with a variety of special needs, so they can participate in the same programs as their friends without disabilities.
The event will feature a runway show, auction, raffle, and much more!
Children of all abilities will participate.
Event Date: Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017
Time: 2 -5 p.m.
Location: Folsom Community Center
52 Natoma Street, Folsom.
Tickets are $30 during the early bird period and $35 afterwards.

Cyber Security Kids Safe Poster Contest
Students in grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 are invited to submit posters to the contest. A total of 13 winner will be chosen from each grade group to have their artwork displayed in the organization's calendar.
It will be distributed throughout the country and used in campaigns to raise awareness among children of all ages about internet and computer safety.
Each participating school or youth group is permitted to submit up to 15 posters, 5 entries per grade group. The posters and
submission form must be submitted by Jan. 26, 2018. Here are the

Board of Education: Oct. 19, 2017
