Calling all beef practitioners!
The IVMA and researchers at Iowa State University want to hear your experiences and opinions regarding Johne's Disease in beef cattle. As part of this project, beef cattle producers in the state will also be surveyed for their experiences and opinions on the disease.

While much is known about Johne's disease in relation to the dairy cattle industry, little is known about the current impact of the disease on the beef industry today. The results of these surveys will be shared at the IVMA Winter Meeting in 2018 to help practitioners in the state as well as IVMA, state regulatory officials and researchers understand the current impact of the disease to the Iowa beef industry and help identify areas of potential need for additional education or research.

Bovine Preconditioning Research Funds Available
The Iowa Veterinary Medical Association announces the availability of grant(s) supporting clinical research in beef cattle. Proposals should be aimed at providing practical solutions veterinarians can utilize in beef production environments. Funding for this support is provided by the IVMA Bovine Committee from proceeds of the Iowa Green/Gold Tag Preconditioning Program. The IVMA is encouraging proposals from private practitioners and collaborative research projects between University faculty and private practitioners. The deadline for proposals is November 1, 2017.

Help Support Young Veterinary Careers
For the fourth consecutive year, Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) is offering Future Service Scholarships to support future cattle veterinarians graduating from the Iowa State University (ISU) College of Veterinary Medicine.

BI formed an alliance with the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association Foundation to offer this unique scholarship to graduating seniors at ISU. The final amount of the scholarship is determined by BI veterinarian and producer customers submitting box tops from Pyramid® 5 and Pyramid® 5 + Presponse® SQ product boxes.

BI will donate the following to fund the Future Service Scholarships. The donation is doubled for producers and veterinarians who participate in the Iowa Green and Gold Tag Preconditioning Program (see information below).
* $2.50 per 100 doses of PYRAMID 5 + PRESPONSE SQ
* $1.25 per 100 doses of PYRAMID 5

From now through Dec. 31, 2017, producers and veterinarians throughout Iowa are encouraged to help fund the scholarship by clipping their box tops. Producers should forward their box tops to their veterinary clinics. Clinics then work with their BI sales representatives to submit to:

Halloween Pet Safety Tips
Halloween is right around the corner and during all the commotion and festivities, it's easy to forget about keeping pets safe. Scary faces and constant visitors can be stressful to pets.  Help prevent emergency calls on Halloween night by educating your clients before the big spooky night.

The AVMA has several resources for you and your clients to help you keep pets safe this Halloween.

The web page, 7 Things You Can Do to Make Halloween Safer for your Pet has some great ideas to keep your furry friends safe.

IVMA members can download a client handout that will be valuable information for your clients.

There is an episode of AVMA's podcast "Animal Tracks" that has great advice on ensuring your pets safety this Halloween. Share the episode, "Halloween Pet Safety Tips" on your website or social media page.

The AVMA also has this video on YouTube with tips for pet owners on keeping animals safe.
