Kum & Go Grants Due December 1
|
Do you live in the city or vicinity of Ames, Sioux City, Iowa City, or Cedar Rapids? Kum & Go is looking for grant applications specifically from your communities to fund afterschool and youth mentoring programming. Kum & Go states that "[we] believe all children deserve a safe home environment and high-quality education. We support programs that help identify the needs of students and provide ongoing educational programs, strategies and resources to address issues affecting the youth in our communities."
Grants on this cycle are due December 1, 2017.

Seeking 21st Century Reviewers and Facilitators
|
 The Iowa Department of Education is seeking applications for their peer review process for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers FY18 grant application competition. This process ensures that quality proposals are selected for funding. Peer review process teams will include q
ualified individuals with diverse expertise and geographic, racial and ethnic representation. The best reviewers will be individuals who are familiar with high-quality youth programs in communities, schools, and faith-based or other organizations that serve youth.
Peer Reviewers and Team Facilitators must be available to participate in an online webinar training on December 7, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and attend the peer review conference on January 25, 2018.
Peer Reviewers score and comment on all scoring criteria for each application assigned. Typically each reviewer is responsible to score three to five grant applications.
Reviewers will receive a $250 stipend, contingent upon their in-person attendance at the Reviewers and Facilitators Conference on January 25, 2017.
Team Facilitators do not score grant applications, but familiarize themselves with the materials in order to facilitate the consensus scoring process for the team they are assigned to lead. F
acilitators will receive a $300 stipend, contingent upon their in-person attendance at the Reviewers and Facilitators Conference on January 25, 2017.
Both reviewers and facilitators are also eligible for mileage and hotel reimbursement, depending on location.

Active Learning STEM Workshop

The STEM Active Learning Community Partners Working Group of the Governor's STEM Advisory Council is hosting a professional development workshop for informal educators.
During this active, hands-on workshop, attendees will have a chance to transform a STEM lesson with the Dimensions of Success Program Planning

Public Health Grants Available
|
The University of Iowa College of Public Health and the Business Leadership Network are excited to release the third Community Grant Project Request for Proposals (RFP). The College has an ongoing interest in collaborating with Iowa communities to meet the increasing needs for public health-related initiatives and projects.

Topic areas:
Include but are not limited to healthy lifestyles, population health, data accumulation, workplace safety/wellness, community needs assessment, children and youth issues, healthy aging, arts and health collaborations, and sustainability of multi-generational, livable communities.
Who is eligible: Nonprofit organizations and local government entities in the state of Iowa.
Funds available: Up to six cash grant awards of up to $3,000 each will be made to applicants in communities within the state. Grants require a minimum 1:1 cash or in-kind match.

These grants target public health projects or activities. Public health is defined as the science and art of protecting and improving the health of communities through education, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and research for disease and injury prevention.  Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities. The effort has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement and generates media coverage across the country each year.
