BE-ing: re-THINK-ing STEWARDSHIP

A Note From Pastor Linda

God spoke: "Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature so they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, and, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth." God created human beings; God created them godlike, reflecting God's nature. God created them male and female.
~Genesis 1.26-27 (the message)

Dear Human DO-ings,

We are all busy. That is how I began the update from last week. This week... I want you to remember that you are a human BEING- not DOING! Yes, we are all busy DO-ing but would it not be better stewardship if we got busy BE-ing, rather than just doing? Perhaps this is a new way for us to think about stewardship- and maybe that is what we ought to do together: re-THINK-ing Stewardship.
The verse from the opening chapter of Genesis: "Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness." Likeness - ikon - is the word used in the Septuagint (Greek translation) of Genesis. Yes, my friends, we bear God's likeness and are therefore made to BE more than we sometimes realize.

Pause for a moment to let that sink in. We were made in the image and likeness of God, and because we bear God's likeness we are to act like God. Not mind you, like gods, those who lord their authority over others for self-gain, but rather like God - the One who creates and sustains and nurtures and redeems and saves...no matter what the cost. We are called, that is, to serve as God's agents, God's partners, and God's co-workers, exercising dominion over creation not as an act of power but rather as an act of stewardship and extending to all the abundant life God wishes for all.

Wow- tall marching orders for today... and tomorrow! This is STEWARDSHIP; and this is re-THINK-ing STEWARDSHIP!!

See you in church! Happy BE-ing!
 ~Pastor Linda

Woodbury Chorus and Orchestra will be performing at Hosanna Lutheran Church on November 12, 2017 at 4pm in the Great Hall. WCO is an arts organization that is unique in the Twin Cities. Each member is a volunteer, including the directors, and each is dedicated to helping those in need. Their primary mission is to contribute to food shelves in the areas where they perform, through proceeds of freewill offerings taken at their concerts. Members also enjoy sharing great music with their audiences, and most of them have had extensive experience in school, community and church musical groups. Proceeds of the freewill offerings taken at concerts are donated to charity, primarily food shelf programs. Since 1985, WCO has received more than $495,500 in offerings at their concerts, which is enough money to buy over 2,495,500 meals. The group has raised funds for flood relief and several hospices, in addition to food shelves.

Chapter 3 Retreat
November 18, 2017

Perhaps you've finished building your career... Maybe you've recently retired or just beginning to think about it... Or the children you've raised have left or are beginning to leave the nest. Each of these scenarios, and many more, represents a transitional and potentially transformational period in life, the turning of a page, the beginning of a NEW chapter in life- the 3
rd Chapter. It is a time that you might find yourself asking, "What's next?". This period offers both opportunity and challenges. It is a time to renew and refocus.
Join others as we explore what this time means in God's time.

DATE: November 18, 2017
LOCATION: Hosanna Lutheran Church
