 TRENDING TOPIC SERIES

Cause & Effect:

How Transportation Prepares, Prevents and Reacts

Everyone has an opinion when it comes to delays and service changes, but we often underestimate the intricacy of disaster mitigation and emergency preparedness of our transportation network.

On November 8th, please join the WTS Young Professionals for a panel discussion on how our transportation network prepares, prevents and reacts to natural disasters and operational malfunctions.

During this Trending Topics event, our panelists will discuss topics ranging from working with FEMA (federal emergency management agency) to rehabilitating transportation systems hit by disasters. After hearing from our guests, participants are encouraged to continue the conversation of this "trending topic" over drinks and networking.

Panelist:

  • Shoshana Cooper, Director of Operations Analysis at MTA New York City Transit who is responsible for emergency contingency planning for bus and rail services.
  • Olga Gorbunova, PE - Civil engineer and project manager at Stantec who manages a team that supports FEMA prepare for and recover from natural disasters.
  • Raymond Sandiford, PE - Vice President at HNTB who has worked on World Trade Center recovery efforts as well as immediate and long-term storm surge protection of PATH facilities.

The Trending Topics Series provides an informal platform for discussions of relevant interest to early and mid-career professionals.

This is not your typical networking event so be sure to invite a colleague or two!

Cost: $10 (refundable at the event)
