After School Enrichment Clubs Begin Next Week
The second session of After School Clubs start after we return from Fall Break. Clubs last for 6 weeks, and meet once a week on their designated day from 3:30-4:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted). Clubs are $75 per student and are open to both Summit students and non-Summit friends! *Please note, age registrations may apply for each club.

Upper School Spanish Competition
The Ozarks Hispanic League hosted the first of three Spanish competitions last Saturday at Rogersville High School. Eight to ten area schools attended this event where students competed against one another in the areas of dance, singing, vocabulary, poetry, and culture bowl. The Summit has tripled its numbers this year with 15 students participating. They will be represented in the areas of singing, vocabulary, poetry, and culture bowl. Students have been working hard during lunch and before and after school to prepare for this event.

Twenty-four Summit students, consisting of 4th through 8th graders, chose to spend Saturday, October 7th, participating in a math contest held on the campus of SBU in Bolivar, Missouri. Close to 500 competitors from over 30 local schools participated at this event. The contest was a qualifier for the regional MCTM (Missouri Council of Mathematics) contest that will be held in the spring of 2018. Students competed through exams made up of four tests: Number Sense, Target, Sprint, and Team. Those placing in each category, 3 total Summit students, have qualified for the regional competition. Students are hoping to attend another qualifying contest in February at Republic. A special shout out to our Summit teachers for taking the extra time to work with and prepare our students for these competitions: Mrs. Anderson, Ms. Gentry, and Ms. Strickland. Results are included below:

Council
The Summit Upper School has formed a Student Council. They will define their own government and constitution, with guidelines from National Student Council. The group is sponsored by Mrs. Smith, Summit Upper School History Teacher. Please join us in congratulating the following students:

SAVE: Upper School Volunteer Event Sat., Nov. 4th
All Upper School students (6th-12th grades) are invited to attend the S.A.V.E. Event (Student Advocate Volunteer Event) on Saturday, November 4th from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at The Summit Prep.
Cooperating with Community Partnership of the Ozarks, The Summit is hosting our second Volunteer Fair for all middle and high school students in the Springfield and surrounding areas. At this event, students (along with parents) may learn about volunteer opportunities and/or possible internship sites from various not-for-profit agencies in the Springfield area.
The Summit's high school service learning class has been very involved in planning the fair, and we would love to see as many smiling Summit faces that day as possible.
This is a come and go event, you do not have to stay the entire time. Please help us spread the word to friends outside of The Summit and invite them

Art to Remember Order Forms Due Wed. Oct 18th
Art students' annual fundraising activity is called Art to Remember. The students created original artwork that was sent to the company last month, and now their images can be printed on a variety of objects. Parents have the opportunity to purchase their children's artwork on items such as mugs, cell phone cases, tote bags, greeting cards, etc.
The proceeds will go towards art supplies for the school year. Art to Remember is an annual favorite of students as well as parents. It is empowering for the students to see their own artwork printed professionally on objects. Parents are able to purchase these items for themselves or give these items as presents to grandparents and relatives. These are truly special gifts that provide an opportunity to show off each child's artistic and creative talents.

High School Tennis Training Camp
The Summit will be hosting its second Tennis Training Camp for all high school students interested in tennis and participating on the High School Tennis Team. All high school students at all levels of play from beginner to advanced are welcome. You are not committed to trying out for the tennis team by attending the camp, but all students interested in playing on the team are encouraged to attend.
The tennis training camp will be held at Highland Springs Country Club the week of
October 23rd as follows:

High School Service Learning: Pennies for Patients
September was Blood Cancer Awareness Month and the high school service learning class raised money for Pennies for Patients (
part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society). High School was astounded by the response to their fundraiser in the classes.
Calculations were still being made at time of publishing, but it appears that....
5th Grade won the Popsicle party for most money donated!
$796.08 was raised total! That's above and beyond the goal of $750!
Total raised from drive: $625.78 --- Buyout Day raised: $170.30

Don't Forget to Donate to Your Class Fund
It's not too late to make your donation to your classroom fund for the 2017-2018 school year. Class funds are used for a variety of classroom reasons throughout the year. From teacher gifts, to class supplies, to class projects, and more. Instead of asking parents to donate for every single project, a suggested donation of $50 per student (more or less is appreciated as well) covers the entire school year. You may drop off your class fund donation to the SPO Payment Box (by the trophy cases in the lobby) any time. Just make sure you note which classroom the money is to go towards. Questions? The Summit Parent Organization (SPO) would like to build the relationships within The Summit community by offering families with businesses the opportunity to list their business in the Summit Business Directory. This will allow us to support one another through referrals and patronage.
Participation is completely optional and free of charge. Don't forget to keep collecting all your box tops, labels, and Tyson product codes! We have a clear bucket on the front desk counter to collect these labels all year long. Please be sure to ask your family and friends to collect theirs as well, The Summit gets credit for every label turned in!
Fun fact: In year's past The Summit has collected over
7600 labels in a single year! 4000 box tops, just shy of 2000 Best choice labels, and 1600+ Labels for Education! Let's beat that this year!
