Healdsburg District Hospital Welcomes
General Surgeon, Doctor Joseph M. Tito
Healdsburg District Hospital (HDH) welcomes General Surgeon, Dr. Joseph M. Tito, to the staff at Healdsburg Physician Group. Although Dr. Tito's experience brings a broad range of surgical expertise, he is highly regarded for his laparoscopic surgical procedures.

Dr. Tito recently arrived from Morton Hospital in Taunton, Massachusetts where he practiced as a General Surgeon for the past 11-years. While with Morton Hospital, he held numerous leadership roles including president of the medical staff from 2012 to 2014. He received his MD Degree from Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, New York.

According to Dr. Tito, "Healdsburg District Hospital presented a great opportunity for my wife and I to relocate to an area we have been frequent visitors to over the years. I am looking forward to the opportunities the hospital gives me to have not only direct patient contact, but an ability to know the various staff associated with the patient’s health, from Dieticians to Physicians. That is an experience found primarily in smaller facilities and one that I prefer."

"The strength of our hospital can be found in the quality of medical professionals like Dr. Tito eager to become a member of our team. Healdsburg District Hospital is excited to welcome Dr. Tito and I am certain his work will be greatly appreciated by the many patients who look to our hospital for their surgical needs," said Nancy Schmid, CEO of HDH.
The mayor was a housekeeper:
Travel as a launch pad and landing zone
Sonoma County Tourism Stamp
She used to work as a waitress in a brew pub to pay for her college tuition. Today she is a physical therapist specializing in the home-bound elderly.

He made pizzas right out of college and went on to become a newspaper columnist and is now an elected official.

Someone else was a housekeeper at a Santa Rosa hotel and is now the voice of local business at a chamber of commerce; still another was a bartender near a convention center and is now a globe-trotting business consultant.

When I read the new report " Travel: America's Unsung Hero of Job Creation ," from the US Travel Association, I wondered if the assertion that travel and hospitality jobs can lead to other careers was true for my friends and family. So, naturally, I put the question out on Facebook and was inundated with surprises from people I thought I knew.

Today's mayors, business owners, teachers, and medical professionals were yesterday's ice cream scoopers, cotton candy twirlers, baristas, and hotel clerks.

According to the report, nearly one-quarter of all American's first jobs were in travel and tourism-related industries. What's even more interesting is that when compared to health care, construction, and manufacturing, travel and hospitality workers fare better in attainment of a bachelor's degree and average career salary.

The travel and hospitality sector is site-specific, which means these jobs cannot be sent off-shore. Plus, they provide opportunity for people entering the workforce.

This is supported by still another study , this one from the RAND Corporation, that showed that in California travel is both a "launching pad" for people entering the work force and gaining skills and education to move on to other careers, and a "landing zone" for workers moving towards retirement and out of the daily grind, but still wanting to be active and earn money.

Some other quick insights from the studies:
• Travel builds the middle class and charts a career path for millions of Americans.
• Travel creates jobs faster than the rest of the economy.
• The industry is the seventh largest employer in the private sector in the US.
• Leisure and hospitality, which is dependent on travel, is the number one small-business employer in the US.
Next time you go to your doctor, ask her if she started out selling concessions at the local amusement park. When you talk to the tasting room staffer who "does this on the weekends" you might be surprised to find they are a published academic who retired to the area. And your next latte art might be coming from a barista on their way to owning a whole chain of coffee shops.

There's honor and dignity in travel and tourism jobs - and a lot of opportunity.

About Dr. Lynda Reid
Dr. Lynda Reid’s eclectic career has always been driven by her passion to guide people in enhancing their life’s evolution. This passion has led her to explore a great diversity of roles in a wide range of locations. Her teaching, coaching, and consulting career began in Canada and has moved her back and forth through the Caribbean, the United States, and China. Those journeys inspired her Doctoral dissertation on the importance and development of Multicultural Leadership.

Dr. Reid inspires, engages, and expands individual and team potential through the application of the latest research and developments in neuroscience, talent development, change management, and work-life harmony.

She currently operates her business between the United States and the British Virgin Islands (BVI). Her clients include budding entrepreneurs, seasoned business owners and senior management in a wide-range of professions. She feels extremely fortunate to have recently relocated her U.S. base to Sonoma County as the devastating impact of Hurricane Irma and Maria on the BVI prevents her from returning to her island clients and home at this time. She is currently donating her coaching to her clients and those on the frontlines of relief and recovery in the BVI. She is looking forward to expanding her client base here in Sonoma County.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas!
xmas-tree-icon.gif
Yes, the holiday season is almost upon us and we are making plans to continue with some of our traditional events and to add in a few new ones as well. The Annual Holiday Party is scheduled as always on Friday, November 24, right after Thanksgiving. The time is 4-8 pm with the arrival of Santa to the Plaza at 5:00pm. Santa will visit with children in the Plaza until 7:00 pm. We are currently booking entertainment including the Windsor Children’s Chorus, the Healdsburg Community Band and Community Chorus, the SRJC Charles Dickens Carolers, a clown and face painter and weather permitting the carriage rides. Something new we’re adding this year is a Downtown Holiday Window Decorating Contest. We will encourage shoppers to visit each participating window by providing them with a passport style folder that each participating business will stamp. The filled passports will then be entered into a drawing for a selection of prizes and gift certificates. This should have a lot of local shopper appeal. More information about this contest will follow shortly.

Plans for the Tree Lighting, the Annual Holiday Inns Tour and the Menorah Lighting are being completed and we will have information about dates and times, soon.
