Letter from the President

The Martians have landed!

Our 85th season of award winning shows is well underway after a successful run for our opener, the riveting musical Bonnie & Clyde We don't need to travel far ahead in time for our next show either.

Written by Michigan native Joe Zettelmaier, It Came From Mars is an award-winning, riotous comedy exploring how one group of people react to the looming threat of Martians on that infamous October night in 1938 when Orson Welles hoodwinked the country with his War of the Worlds broadcast.  Running October 13-29 with Halloween on the horizon, this is the perfect show for the season!

November brings another award-winning work with local playwright Eric Pfeffinger's Human Error and the beginning of December ushers in our holiday tradition, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol performed at the beautiful Valentine Theatre.  In between the hustle and bustle of auditions and rehearsals for a multitude of upcoming productions, we also have more classes going on than ever at The Rep. In addition to our regular Young Rep Ed and Adult Improv classes, we also have a full group of students for our new "The Craft of Acting" class.

Of course, with all that's going on at our community theatre, we're always looking for extra hands. If you like what we're doing and want to get more involved, please let us know by filling out our  volunteer form , or just email us at [email protected] . We'd also love to have you join us for our next building clean up day on October 21st.

Last but not least, The Rep was honored this past month with a proclamation from Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson, recognizing our theatre for its 85th season and all that it contributes to the Toledo community. Whether you're a patron, performing artist, sponsor, or volunteer behind the scenes, we wouldn't be here today without you. Thank you as always  for your ongoing support and investment in the performing arts at The Rep!

The Rep is looking for Building Committee Volunteers!

The Building Committee's mission is to lead and guide the process of maintaining and enhancing The Rep's historic theatre building and rehearsal building. Do you have any interest in helping us with our efforts to preserve and enhance our historic buildings? Whether you have experience in one of the building trades, knowledge about various aspects of construction, or just a passion for this kind of work, we would love to have you on board!

If you are interested in joining the committee or have any questions, please email  [email protected]

Toledo Blade
Rep theatre honored for 85th year in operation

Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson presented representatives of the Toledo Repertoire Theatre with a proclamation Friday in honor of the organization's 85th season of presenting live theater in Toledo.  Accepting the proclamation were Christopher McAnall, president of the theater, and Dave DeChristopher, artistic director.

The Rep is the longest-operating community theater in the city and sixth-oldest continually operating community theater in Ohio, Mr. McAnall said. The institution's mission is to educate, entertain, and serve Toledo and the surrounding region through live theater.  As a nonprofit community theater, it depends on volunteers, who log more than 34,000 volunteer hours annually. The Rep also offers classes, camps, and workshops for children and adults throughout the year, covering everything from acting, singing, and dancing, to improv comedy, and technical theater.  "We are honored to be getting this recognition from the mayor and the city at the beginning of our 85th season," Mr. McAnall said. "The Rep has been a steadfast contributor to the performing arts in Toledo since 1933. Our theater has been through the Great Depression, the rise and decline of business in downtown Toledo, and now the resurgence of development that we're seeing today.  "We look forward to continuing to play an important role in the cultural fabric of our community, both through our award winning shows and our expanding theater education program."

The Toledo Rep at the Girl Scouts BIG Event
The Toledo Rep participated in the B.I.G. Event, which was held at the downtown SeaGate Convention Centre, attracted some 800 Girl Scouts from all over northwest Ohio. While each could design their own day - choosing from the varied workshops, exhibits, and hands-on activities - the idea is to give the scouts the opportunity to design their own year of learning and achieving.
