A PASTORAL STATEMENT BY PASTOR ULYSSES STEPHEN KING, JR.
In response to tragic shooting deaths and gun violence last evening in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the daily examples of violence witnessed in our communities and homes, we call upon all peoples of good will to lay down their arms and exercise the greater courage of peacemaking and love. Tragically, gun violence in the United States and other acts that strike at the life and dignity of persons, are an all too common reality. More than ever, the Church and all people of good will must work together to confront the pervasive culture of violence.
We, the Members (and Friends) of Memorial Tabernacle Church offer our sincere prayers and condolence to the Families and Friends that suffered the loss of loved ones and friends by the hands of an insane assailant. Let us remember the words of Jesus who said, "Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword" (Matthew 26:52). And, "Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law" (Romans 13:10).
Please join us in private and personal prayers of peace and remembrance wherever you are (at home, your church, in your car, restaurants, etc.) at 6:00 p.m., today, for the families and victims directly affected by this tragedy. Memorial Tabernacle will be open by 5:40PM for those who desire to pray together at our 5801 Racine Street location.
Peace and Love,
Pastor King, Staff, and Members of MTC
