This Week at St Timothy's
|
|
Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Adult Formation: The Ministry of Hospitality | Becky Johnston
|
|
Wednesday night formation continues this week as we discuss more specifically what Biblical Hospitality looks like in various areas of our Parish. We have had such rich conversation about how to be a welcoming church- and in doing so we were challenged to remember that EACH of us is on the "Hospitality Team". Let's remember that as we go forward in this endeavor.
That being said, if you are a)new to St. Tim's and can share some of your perspective as a "newcomer" or, b)if you feel like you could bring some of your gifts to our new Hospitality Team, please reach out to becky@sttimothys.ws. Our new Team will gather mid-October to see how to better serve the needs of our Church and how to welcome others as they join us.

On the first Sunday of every month, St Timothy's invites all to a parish-wide breakfast in Drake Hall between the 9am and 11am masses. This breakfast is in lieu of formation. Break a biscuit and get to know someone new and share the joy of Our Lord with members of the parish family.

Club 543 is this Sunday! Club 543 is the outreach response to Children's Formation, where our kids go out and share their faith through service in the community. Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are going to New Communion Mobile Food Pantry to help restock their shelves and learn about their mission to serve people in Winston-Salem's neighborhoods without easy access to food. Kids will meet in Drake Hall lobby at 12:15pm (right after the 11am mass) and will carpool over to First Christian Church (on Country Club). Parents are needed to help with carpooling--please let Katie know if you can drive. We'll be back at St.Tim's before 1:45pm (or you can pick up your child at the back of First Christian at 1:30pm).

From the Choir Loft | Christin Barnhardt
|
|
Music for the Feast of St Michael & All Angels
The choir will sing and English setting of the plainchant Missa de Angelis. Parts of this mass are approximately 1200 years old, though the easily-singable, almost folksong-like melodies make it sound much more "modern" (300-500 years old). As the choir sings on your behalf, let the music accompany your own prayers.
Prelude: Psalm Prelude Set 2, No.2, Herbert Howells
Hymns:
Christ, the fair glory, No. 282
Ye holy angels bright, No. 625
Round the Lord in glory seated, No. 367
Let all mortal flesh keep silence, No. 324
Ye watchers and ye holy ones, No. 618
Anthem: Tibi Christe splendor Patris, Lassus
This Sunday, all of the children and youth choirs will lead our 9am mass hymns. Take a look. The choir loft will be full! Please remember that they will be singing to the glory of God. Their musical offerings are not a "performance," so we will not clap for them.
Prelude: Prelude on Nettleton, Jenette Fishell
Hymns:
Come, thou fount of every blessing, No. 686
Day by day, No. 654
Father, we thank thee who hast planted, No. 302
Deck thyself, my soul, with gladness, No. 339
All hail the power of Jesus' Name!, No. 450
Anthem: "Christ, we do all adore Thee," from Seven Last Words, Théodore Dubois
Postlude: Fugue XI in F, Georg F. Handel
Hope to see you Friday and Sunday.
God's Peace,
Christin

We are genuinely grateful for all of you who have reached out to introduce yourselves to Michelle. After her first few days as an intern, she is settling in to her new home, her new job, and now her new role in service with TAP. She is excited about this calling, and we are excited to have her with us.
Friday we will be spending the day in our first retreat- having a time of self reflection as well as a time spent focusing on Team Building.
As we prepare for Father DJ to join us, we have moved to TAP office to the Conference Room. It will still be used as a Conference Room- all of the groups that originally use that space will continue to. We have added a desk and a seating area along the far wall and are fortunate to have enjoyed using the room for TAP Tuesday this week.
Finally, I am looking forward to time away next week. The fall meeting of the Episcopal Service Corps Program Directors and Board will be in Minneapolis Tuesday- Friday. This meeting always energizes me and I am so excited to reconnect with the other Directors. We are going to be meeting with our National Executive Director, too, and discussing the future of ESC. I'll covet your prayers as I travel.
Grace and Peace,
Becky Johnston
TAP Director.

On Change
As I am in the middle of a change with a new job, I have been thinking a lot about change. In life, we all experience change. It can be a birth, a death, a marriage, a divorce, a new job, a lost job, or it can be spiritual. Even when change is positive it still involves adjusting to something new. Positive or negative, big or small, change disrupts our routine. Facing change and the unknown can cause the fear, worry, dred and uneasiness we call anxiety. Paul in his letter to the Philippians said, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
God does not want us to fear change. He wants to be with us, guide us, comfort us, and encourage us. He can do this in numerous ways. It could be leading us to church, to prayer, to a specific Scripture, to a friend to build community with, etc. We do not know what God has planned for us in regard to a change in our lives. Can we stay open to change? Can we accept change? Can we seek change? Will we work on our spiritual growth/change? I feel St. Timothy’s is a community where change and growth is supported and available in many forms. We just need to remember, “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.

Check Deposit Issues | Chris Ervin
|
|
I have heard from several of you about checks written to St. Timothy’s that have not cleared your bank. I assure you that this is not a case of the church not needing your contributions! We use remote deposit for check contributions and there have been technical difficulties with our check scanner the last couple of weeks. Initially it was discovered that our software was corrupted. Resolving this issue could not be accomplished. We needed an update to a new version of the software. This has been completed and all outstanding check contributions have been deposited as of this weekend. Your checks should clear tomorrow or the next day. If you have any questions, please contact me at chris@sttimothys.ws or 336-765-0294.
