THE BIA CAN ONLY THRIVE WHEN MEMBERS ARE INVOLVED, SO WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?
Association councils and committees are a great way to maximize your membership's value
By Andy Davidson, North State BIA Chair

With the regional housing market continuing to improve, it means a lot of us are significantly busier than we have been in several years. I get it. Sometimes it feels like there are simply not enough hours in the day to get done what needs getting done. But here I am, on a Monday morning no less, asking you to do more. Let's be clear, though: I am only asking you to go above and beyond because I know you are fiercely committed to seeing all of us grow as individuals, companies, and as an industry.

So, what's the big ask?

At the North State BIA, there is a system in place to efficiently communicate and resolve issues for our members. That system revolves around our various councils and committees, which include the Associates Council, the Bureau of Real Estate, our Government Affairs Councils, Membership Council, Sales and Marketing Council, and the Trade Builder Alliance Council - all of which are ultimately represented on the board of directors. For an overview of each of the councils and committees, please click here

The bottom line is that there really is something for every BIA member when it comes to our councils and committees, so please strongly consider getting involved. Getting involved at this level also enables you to maximize the value of your BIA membership. Serving in this capacity allows you to be in the room, so you can offer up your insights and input as we work together, as an industry, to confront the challenges we face and to proactively come up with new initiatives that will drive our industry forward.

In the next few weeks, you will receive a formal call to apply to serve on our councils and committees. Again, I urge you to strongly consider joining us in order to take your membership to the next level.

Thanks for your time and support of the North State BIA.

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2018
Executive Committee offers Builder Director nominations for 2018
As many of you are well aware, the end of one year really only means one thing: its time to get ready for next year. Now while there's certainly plenty of 2017 left to go, at the BIA we are always looking ahead.

A major component of our preparation every year is the nomination and election of new builder directors, who will be a part of the association's governing body for a term of three years. Also, in addition, there will be new one year terms for the chairs of our respective councils. Our nominees for the 2018 North State BIA Board of Directors are below.
  • Brian Cutting, Woodside Homes
  • Matt Hogan, KB Home
  • Price Walker, Elliott Homes
The next step in this process will happen on December 6 at the Annual Meeting of the Members, where the board member election will take place. In the meantime, if you would like to nominate anyone else for the board, please do so at least three weeks before this meeting. The nomination must be in writing and must also be signed by at least five percent of the voting members (the board) in good standing. All nominations - including questions about this process - should be submitted to the BIA's President and CEO, Michael Strech.

THE NORTH STATE BUILDING INDUSTRY FOUNDATION NEEDS YOU
Our foundation needs your help in telling the next generation about the great opportunities available in this industry
The   Foundation goes to high schools all over the region to speak with students about our industry at career fairs and as classroom speakers to grab the attention of the next generation of builders.

Through our experience, we've learned that what students love even more than hearing from us is hearing from YOU - the tradespeople and builders who are the boots on the ground in our industry.

Help us reach out and share the amazing opportunities our industry has to offer by joining us at an event or allowing us to bring students on a field trip to see what your company does for the industry.

Contact Elizabeth Goldsmith for more information and to see our current schedule of events.
