TRAUMA INFORMED CARE THROUGH THE LENS OF APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS

David R. Donnelly, PhD, a Licensed Behavior Analyst at the University of Rochester, will discuss the growing awareness among experts that exposure to traumatic events can have a significant impact on individuals, and how this awareness has fostered a growing call for Trauma Informed Care (TIC). This presentation will discuss the concept of trauma from a behavior analytic perspective, and highlight where a behavioral approach can be used to help define, understand, and effectively treat individuals who have experienced trauma.

WHY YOU NEED TO BE A MORE EFFECTIVE AND POWERFUL ADVOCATE

In a fast-paced, interactive session, Adam Stofsky, CEO, LawHub, Inc., will help attendees understand how to be a more effective advocate, for their organization, those they support, family members and themselves. Learn why personal stories are important in delivering powerful arguments and how to be more effective in advocating for people and ideas.

IMPROVING OUTCOMES FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES: PRIORITIES, RESOURCES, AND UPDATES

Christopher Suriano, Assistant Commissioner, New York State Education Department, will provide an overview of the priority focus areas of the Office of Special Education and the alignment of resources to support schools and programs in serving students with disabilities. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about policy updates and discuss topics of interest from the field.

Tuesday Evening is a time to honor some of your friends and colleagues from Affiliates across the state at the Staff Recognition Dinner. Following the dinner thanking and highlighting more than 60 staff from Long Island to Canton, from the Southern Tier and the Niagara Frontier, the Audiostars will be waiting in the Saratoga Ballroom to help you get in the mood to kick off your shoes and dance, dance, dance!
