Paige Berry:
Overcoming the Little Voice

Paige Berry's biggest struggle in life is her "little voice," that takes her back to the past when she was addicted to drugs and lost her confidence. Her little voice tells her not to come to classes, that she is not going get her GED® and that she's stupid.  "Honestly, part of me wants to quit every day," Paige reveals at a meeting with a funder. She has been clean since June 22, 2016, and the little voice is slowly disappearing.

Meet the Author, Wanda Steward

Wanda Steward spent the last 18 months learning to read and write and now she has authored a children's book.  With help from Project Literacy, she turned the bedtime story that she told her children into a book, The Little Chicken Named Pong-Pong.

S he is learning how to read   through the city's Office of Adult Education(OAE)  my PLACE  system, where she was directed to CFL and then took classes in her Southwest neighborhood at the Kingsessing Library with OAE partner, Adults Can Learn to Read, under teacher JoAnn Fishburn. Give through Donor Option

One-third of adults in Philadelphia are considered low literate, struggling to fill out a job application, struggling to read doctors' instructions on their medicines, and struggling to help with their children's homework. If your workplace hosts giving campaigns through United Way you can help adults learn how to read.  Make a donation through the Donor Choice program of United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey by selecting Donor Option # 147 for Center for Literacy. Thank you!
