OCTOBER 2017

Hello Friends and Partners...
As the Trump administration continues to advance policies that put individuals and families at risk, and as disasters around the globe challenge even the most resilient among us,the challenge before us can seem daunting. I want you to know that the City of Seattle's Office of Sustainability and the Environment is singularly focused on programs and projects aimed at making sure our communities and Seattle's residents are as strong as they can be. I'm excited about the new opportunities OSE is taking on right now which are centered on racial equity and how government can work to decrease the disparities we see in our city. In the coming months you'll hear more about Seattle's resilience strategy and how our food access program is growing to ensure more people have access to healthy food. Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our work.

KEY SUSTAINBILITY UPDATES
Building a Resilient Seattle
OSE has launched an intensive process to develop Seattle's Resilience Strategy. We are asking the question of how Seattle can continue to thrive amidst ongoing urban challenges, prepare for sudden shocks and catastrophic events, and create opportunities for all residents to enjoy a prosperous, healthy, and high quality of life? We are really interested in your thoughts on this topic. More info on this work is here
Building Tune-Up Accelerator Now Accepting Applications
OSE is recruiting owners of 100 mid-size buildings (100,000 SF or less excluding parking) to enroll in the new Tune-Up Accelerator Program. We are partnering with Seattle City Light to offer financial incentives of up to $0.12 per square foot and additional support to help building owners get a jump-start on meeting the upcoming Seattle Building Tune-Ups requirement

Making Improvements in the Duwamish Valley
Last year, as called for in the Equity & Environment Initiative, Seattle launched the Duwamish Valley Program (DVP) to ensure that Duwamish Valley residents, workers, and businesses thrive and share the benefits of the City's investments and environmental work. The program is driven by racial equity outcomes, community input, and reflects many goals and strategies already included in other City efforts.  Learn more about this important program here.

The Office of Sustainability & Environment collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders to develop innovative environmental solutions that foster equitable, vibrant communities and shared prosperity.
