Santa Fe TTN is organized and led entirely by volunteers.

News From The Steering Committee
Gratitude for the things we have is important. We want to thank those who are serving on committees, participating in Transition Peer Groups, attending monthly programs and events, and letting others know about The Transition Network. Members who bring in a new member receive a gift. We encourage all members to bring a guest and also appreciate those who find us on their own.

While we have much to be thankful for, there are others who may need our help: we can donate clothing, food, or time to one of our local agencies. If you have a charity that would want donations of food or clothing, or need a day or two of volunteer assistance, please let us know.

In a similar vein, we were all enthusiastic about finding a volunteer project that we could do as a group: an example is the Women Build in the spring where we join forces with other volunteers and help Habitat for Humanity build housing for lower-income people in Santa Fe. If you have ideas for a group project, let us know.

Would you like to be a part of helping decide the direction of the Santa Fe TTN chapter? Would you like to feel more connected and use some of your skills or learn new ones? We are looking for someone to take over the Treasurer position an d one or two people to be Chapter Coordinators. Let any of the Steering Committee members who are listed at the bottom of this newsletter know of your interest.

My Transition Story

Virginia Asman
I am a city girl. Driving a car is not my favorite thing. It was a happy day in 1995 when I moved to NYC and traded my 1987 NIssan Pulsar with its T-roof for the MTA's newly graffiti-free subway trains. Never missing my 30+ years as a suburban driver, I was now able to navigate the city by rail and by foot. NJ Transit took me a bit farther and, for really long distances, there were the airlines. Having a driver's license meant that I had a photo ID, nothing more.

My romance with public transportation did not end with my move to the Land of Enchantment. "You have to have a car in Santa Fe" was to me "fake advice" as I discovered Santa Fe Trails with its $10 monthly unlimited rides. Where the buses didn't go, UBER and friends did. All was well for over two years -  except for one nagging truth.

I had been told that I was "really brave" to be without a car. Au contraire, my 22-year driving gap had created in me a huge fear of "taking the wheel." I was far from bold! I knew I had been limiting myself; so, finding encouragement in a Women In Transition workshop, I was determined to carry out my action plan. Four driving lessons later, I was visiting my favorite red rocks of Sedona - not via another Pink Jeep tour, but in my own little Enterprise rental! Facing my fears, and re-channeling old skills, I completed my transition with my very own brand new Mazda CX-3! And now this "Jersey Girl" can even pump her own gas! ~ Virginia Asman

If you'd like to share your transition experience(s), please email a draft of your transition narrative - limited to 300 words or less - to Membership Co-Chair Lynne Frimond  [email protected]

REIMAGINING WORK
formation of Special Interest Group
Are you a budding entrepreneur? Changing careers?  Seeking work or experiencing any kind of career transition?

Starting over or creating new work can be stressful and at times feel isolating. Join other like-minded individuals within your TTN community who are seeking to create meaningful work. We will gather to share experiences, resources and provide support for one another. The group will also provide a space for us to trade services if desired and appropriate. Don't go it alone!

Email Amy Yockel at [email protected] if you are interested in joining.  Meeting dates to come.

Melodrama Madness!

TTN members and guests pose with "Boozeanna Martinis" (actress Libby King) after thoroughly enjoying the 2017 Fiesta Melodrama at the Santa Fe Playhouse. Subtitled "A Down Home Dance Hall Drama or Sister, Can You Spare A Sanguich or A Very Kofveve Council D onspiracy," the annual production has since 1919 lampooned local news and politics. In addition to Boozeanna (who was presented with a huge VETO stamp), thinly disguised 2017 characters included Linda Villa-Mall and Savannah Scandelara

Are You Really A TTN Member?
We are trying to untangle the confusion some people have about whether being a member of TTN's Meetup group also means you are a member of TTN. It does NOT.

Non-members are welcome to attend three activities without joining TTN. By then, we hope you will know that this is a group you'd like to make a part of your life in Santa Fe and then join. The Transition Network (aka TTN) is a national membership organization and annual membership dues are $100.

There are many benefits to being a member. Along with participating in the several activities we plan each month and the program at our monthly meeting, you are eligible to be in a Transition Peer Group - a rewarding experience for so many of our members. If you want to learn more about the benefits of membership, please contact Membership Coordinator, Lynne Frimond, at [email protected].
