"Get Back Up Again"
by Anna Kendrick
Did you know?
The Soles for Catholic Education event this Saturday has several activities planned:
  • Kids' activities provided by the Milwaukee Admirals, Milwaukee Wave, Pius XI High School, and the local Fire Department!  Have your face painted or a button made with your name written in Chinese by the high school students at Pius XI.
  • "Stuff the Bus" with gently-used shoes for St. Vincent de Paul.
  •  Music by "Hot Off the Grill".
  • The 15 Catholic high schools in our Archdiocese are sponsoring "Treat & Tweet" stops along the walk route. Walkers are encouraged to stop at each tent to pick up a treat, tweet and post updates about the Walk. Take pictures and videos to share at the same time. This is a fun way to bring social media into the mix and get everyone excited about the event. Use the following hashtag on Facebook and Twitter: #SolesWalk

Much more information about things going on in our parish and Lifelong Faith Formation department can be found in our  CONNECTIONS NEWSLETTER.   If you would like to be added to this list to receive this twice-monthly newsletter, email Angie.

Our speaker for the parents tonight is Dan Burnett, author of I'm a CXO, Now What?   All parents are welcome to join us for this session tonight from 6:25-7:25 in the PLC. You are a CXO! What is that? Chief Experience Officer. You can literally make someone's day! Change starts with each of us. Come hear more about "the job description for living a life of purpose and meaning."

Firstfruits has a new look and a new home! Check out the new website for more information, location, sessions, speakers and more.

From the Desk of Ellen Knippel, Principal

Dear Parents,
I hope you enjoyed your long weekend! The weather wasn't perfect, but it was still a nice "change of pace" for the students! The faculty spent both days in-service. We gained some great knowledge in the areas of Science and Literacy!

We have a very important event coming up this weekend! SOLES FOR EDUCATION! Unfortunately we are FAR from reaching our goal! We need YOU to make a pledge! Remember, every penny stays right here at St. Anthony and will be used for tuition assistance! NOW THE GOOD NEWS!! We have a donor who is willing to MATCH up to $2000 in donations!! You may send in ANY donations (any amount helps!) to the school office until Friday, October 20th or donate online. Students, for every $50, you get 2 out-of-uniform passes, and for every $100, a pair of Soles for Education socks! If you'd like to join us for the walk, it will take place this Saturday at Mt. Mary University with warm-ups at 9:40am. The walk begins at 10am! Dress for the weather! THANK YOU for your generosity!

Calendar Change!  Please see below for an important change to the Iowa testing dates.

Damaged Chromebooks! We have had a rash of damaged Chromebooks. Students have been dropping them or stuffing them into their backpacks with their other books and screens are damaged. Please take a moment to discuss Chromebook safety with your child! We are running out of replacements!

Blessings,
Mrs. Ellen Knippel

The "L" Word
Families, please be aware that head lice have been reported at several local schools. Now is the time when the little darlings love to find a warm winter home. Please have some daily bonding time with your child as you examine their heads from nape to crown. If you happen to find visitors, please let the school know ASAP.  We will keep your name confidential, but will also alert the rest of the school so we can stop the spread before it starts. Thanks for your help!

Classroom Corner
Mrs. Hofbauer's 1st grade class used the "Living Rosary" to pray the rosary last week. They prayed the Joyful Mysteries and lit a candle with each prayer.

The 1st grade class learned the story of Creation. They wrote a "Creation Book" in which they used informative writing features which included a title, topic sentence, details, and closing sentence.

They were so proud to read their books to the 3rd and 4th grade classes!
Prayers and Celebrations
Prayer
Please pray for those affected by the California wildfires. Pray for the people in harms way, the hundreds that are missing, and for the families that are grieving the loss of someone or recovering from the loss of a home. Pray for the generosity of friends and neighbors.

Catholics care about creation! We're celebrating energy conservation and challenging one another to do more. Do you accept the challenge?
This week, we  give thanks for energy and electricity, and  pray for those without it. Ponder what your family can do to conserve this resource.

"There is a nobility in the duty to care for creation through little daily actions... which directly and significantly affect the world around us... and can be an act of love which expresses our own dignity." - Pope Francis, Laudato Si, 211.

Celebrations!
The 8th grade girl's volleyball team took 3rd place in the St. Leonard's School Tournament. They also received an invitation to play in the Seton Tournament. Congrats girls!
Box Top Challenge!!!
October 9-23
EACH child who submits at least 10 box tops will get a FREE ticket to one of these Milwaukee Wave soccer games!

P lease include all of your children's names and grades when you submit them to school. Feel free to use the collection sheets or put them in a little baggie. It is helpful to have the expiration date showing and trimmed around the perforated edges. Please no staples. Now is the time to turn your box tops in as they do expire!

Look for them on cereals, frozen goods, diapers, snacks, juice, meals, jellies, baking, paper products, disposable tableware, refrigerated & dairy, storage bags, and office & school supplies. They are in more places than you think.  Check out the complete list here.

The school gets 10 cents for every box top we send in - and there are plenty bonus box tops out there too, valued at up to $10!

Ask Grandparents, family, and friends to help as well!

Email Julie Goyette if you have any questions.
