Got Plants? What the Health will be screened for free on Sunday, October 22 in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206 at 7:00 p.m. The film looks at the link between diet and disease, and the billions of dollars at stake in healthcare, pharmaceuticals and food industries. What the Health is also available to view on Netflix, YouTube, Google Play Movies & TV, iTunes, and Amazon Video.  
 
What The Health is the groundbreaking follow-up film from the creators of the award winning documentary Cowspiracy. On Tuesday, October 24 at 7 p.m. Kip Andersen, the filmmaker will present a lecture and question & answer session. The lecture is free, but ticketed. Tickets are available from the Ticket Office in the CFL, or at tickets.luther.edu.

Pulitzer Prize winner and Luther alumna Erin Alberty and award-winning journalist and author Jessica Luther will share their experiences reporting on sexual assault claims at several major universities, including Brigham Young University and Baylor University, respectively. They will discuss what they have discovered during their investigations, and what needs to happen to slow down the trend of sexual abuse on campuses. Their presentation takes place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall.
 
Examining a liturgical drama known as the Visitatio sepulchri or "Visit of the sepulcher" that was performed on Easter Sunday in churches and monasteries during the Middle Ages, Melanie Batoff, assistant professor of music, will deliver a lecture titled "The Past Meets the Present: Strengthening Community through the 'Visitatio sepulchri' Liturgical Drama" at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 22, in the Choir Room of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.
 
As a part of Luther College's Reformation festivities, the exhibit "Sola Scriptura: Biblical Text and Art Celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation," will be displayed in the upper level gallery of the Center for Faith and Life on Luther's Campus October 19 - December 3. To connect faith to its artistic expression, visitors to the exhibit are also invited to the October 31 Reformation Symposium, "The Reformation of Everything." 

The International Fashion Show is at 8 p.m. Saturday, October 21, in the CFA Atrium. Tickets are $2 is purchased ahead of time at the box office or $3 at the door. Food will be available for sale during the show. The event is co-sponsored by the Center for Sustainability. 
 
The International Students and Allies Association (ISAA) is proud to present our annual Fashion Show on October 21 at 8 p.m. in the CFA Atrium. This year's theme  Appreciate, Don't Appropriate encourages the Luther community to join in the celebration of cultures whilst also recognizing that around the world there are instances where cultures are harmfully appropriated. Tickets are $2 presale and $3 at the door.
 
In celebration of Iowa Archaeology Month, the Luther College anthropology department is hosting a screening of Landscapes that Shape Us at 6 p.m. Friday, October 20, in F.W Olin Building, Room 102. A question and answer session with the producers of the documentary will follow the screening.
 
Luther students are invited to submit abstracts for the 2018 National Conference on Undergraduate Research, to be held April 4-7, 2018 at the University of Central Oklahoma.  Applications for on-campus selection process are due by 5:00 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2017. American Rhapsody: The Gershwin Songbook presented by The Gershwin Big Band, and music director Michael Andrew, comes to the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall Friday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m. Join us for an evening of irresistibly fun Jazz Age music. According to, Broadway World, "Andrew's virtuoso performance is startling in its complexity... clearly this is a role he was born to play". Green Card event! Tickets are available online or at the Ticket Office.
 
Bringing TV Dinners Back -- Join Prof. Andy Hageman to watch and discuss an episode of "Comrade Detective," a 2017 satire filled with great performances, smart writing, and provocations for ethical conversations. Set in Romania in the 1980s, "Comrade Detective" uses the mean streets of Bucharest to reinforce communist ideology and cold war anxieties about the US. Sexual Violence on College Campuses -- October 18, 7:30 p.m. , Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall. The CEPE will host investigative journalists, Jessica Luther and Erin Alberty '01 for a discussion about the culture of sexual violence on college campuses.  Author of Unsportsmanlike Conduct: College Football and the Politics of Rape, Luther broke a story of sexual assault by a Baylor football player.  Alberty was part of the Salt Lake Tribune Pulitzer Prize-winning team that exposed sexual assault cases at BYU and Utah State.
 
Jessica Luther will be signing her book, Unsportsmanlike Conduct: College Campuses and the Politics of Rape following the presentation on October 18. The book will be available for purchase in the Book Shop and at the book signing. 
 
The Diversity Center will have a Decorah Walmart shopping shuttle running from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14. This is open to all students and there is no charge, but reservations are requested, please register here. Students should meet in front of the Union.
 
The CEPE invites students, staff, faculty and community members to sign up for the next round of  book  groups, which will meet twice after fall break.  Authors range from a neuroscientist to a Reformation historian, to a social psychologist, to local author, Keith Lesmeister.  Check out all of the titles and sign up at  cepe.luther.edu. Signed Books - If you missed the homecoming book signing bonanza please stop in a pick up a signed copy of your favorite Luther author. We have books signed by Keith Lesmeister '01, Jerry Johnson, Jerry Twedt '57, Marvin Slind, Kurt Clopton '92, and Todd Green.  
 
Luther College will spray the lawns with herbicides to provide well-maintained, visually attractive grounds for Luther students, employees and visitors, and to control undesirable weeds on athletic fields. Weather permitting, the date for spraying is the evening of Friday, October 13, with Saturday, October 14, and Sunday, October 15, set as back up days as needed.
