Meeting Reminder: Developing the Amended Blue Box Program Plan - In Discussion with the Steward Community

As a business that participates in Stewardship Ontario's Blue Box Program, your feedback and suggestions are essential as we develop our proposal for an amended Blue Box Program Plan (a- BBPP).

Thank you to those of you who have already registered for the meeting on Wednesday, October 25. We will use this time to  review and discuss proposed a-BBPP features that will specifically pertain to stewards.

We are dedicated to ensuring the a-BBPP proposal is developed in a consultative and collaborative manner that fosters two-way conversation. Over the coming months, stewards will be invited to provide feedback and ask questions on the features of the plan that pertain to them.

The October 25 steward meeting will be an opportunity for us to gather your initial feedback and discuss the following:
  • Requirements from the Minister's Letter that will be of special interest to stewards and details about the consultation process.
  • The proposed process for transition to full producer responsibility.
  • Proposed changes to the current definitions of obligated materials.
  • Proposed program performance enhancements such as material-specific targets and expanded service requirements.
  • Projected program cost estimates.
  • And more ...

Background
On August 14, 2017 the Ontario Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Chris Ballard issued a  letter directing Stewardship Ontario and the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (the Authority) to prepare an a-BBPP by February 15, 2018. The amended Plan will transition the program from its current shared cost model to full producer responsibility pursuant to s.13 of the Waste Diversion Transition Act (WDTA). For more information on the a-BBPP initiative,  click here.

The discussion and feedback gathered from this meeting will help Stewardship Ontario draft a proposal for an a-BBPP. The draft a-BBPP proposal will be sent out to stewards in December for further review and feedback, before being finalized and submitted to the Authority for approval. The final proposal, if approved by the Authority, will then be submitted to the Minister before the February 15, 2018 deadline.
