Students go through lines for The Importance of Being Earnest, which will be held at Valley Lutheran High School November 2-4 at 7pm. In recognition of Valley Lutheran's 40th anniversary, there will also be a reception at intermission each night for past graduates who were in the drama program.

Fruit Sale Starts This Thursday
Valley Lutheran's Booster Club is asking students and parents to help sell fruit for its annual fundraiser. The Booster Club is selling Florida Indian River seedless navel oranges, pink grapefruit, mandarin oranges and mixed cartons. Proceeds help the Music, Drama and Athletic programs. The fruit sale runs Thursday, Oct. 19 to Thursday, Nov. 9. The delivery date is  Saturday, Dec. 2. Contingency Notebook Workshop Oct. 24 (Morning Session Added)
The Valley Lutheran High School Foundation is hosting a Contingency Notebook Workshop on Tuesday, October 24, from 9-11:30am and 6-8:30pm in the Resource Center. Do you have a "contingency notebook with all the information a loved one or personal representative needs to know should you become seriously incapacitated or die? When tragedy strikes, it is no time to go through drawers, looking for pertinent information. An up-to-date contingency notebook can make all the difference. You will leave with a folder of resources to help you organize your important information. Refreshments will be served during the morning session and a light supper for the evening workshop. Next Parents in Prayer Meeting Oct. 26
Parents in Prayer is a group of parents who gather to pray at Valley twice each month. The group will meet at the school from 8-9:30am on Thursday, Oct. 26, and meets throughout the year. They prayfor the needs of your children, as well as the needs of all the students at Valley. Parents can attend any or all of the dates. Prayer requests can be sent to [email protected]. Confidential requests can be sent to this address or can be submitted in the black prayer box attached to the wall in the RC. If you have questions, please call or text Carla Belill at 989-295-3018.
Post Prom Meeting Set for Oct. 29 - We Need Your Help!
Are you a party planner? Do you have the greatest ideas when planning an event? If so, we're looking for you. Join the Post-Prom Planning Committee and give Valley students an evening to remember. We are in need of several parents to make this a successful event. The first Post Prom meeting will be  Sunday, Oct. 29, at 4pm at Valley. Bring your ideas and be prepared to have a lot of fun.   If you are interested or have questions, contact Christian Wilke at 989-790-1676.
Vendors Spots Available for VLHS Holiday Bazaar
The Valley Lutheran Parent Organization still has some room for vendors for its annual Holiday Bazaar and Cookie Walk. Crafters, businesses and home-based consultants are welcome to rent tables for the Saturday, Nov. 11, event, which runs from 9am to 3pm at the school. The deadline to apply is this  Friday, Oct. 20. A Sign-up Genius was sent from Keith Trent. Your help is greatly appreciated.  A luncheon takes place from 11am to 1pm and admission is free.
Needed: Someone to Rebuild Marimba Frame
The VLHS Music Department is looking for a talented welder or woodworker to rebuild our current marimba frame. Lions Accepting Applications for Scholarships 
The Lions Youth Exchange Program is offering $6,000 in scholarships to students ages 16-20, who write a 500-word essay based on the following criteria. 
  • How does the community benefit from volunteers?
  • How would you represent Lions and the American people in a foreign country?
  • Explain how your values are similar to the values of Lionism.

Complete the application. Submit the essay and application to Debra VanTol at [email protected] by Nov. 30Winners will be announced Dec. 30. The winner must be 16-20 years old to travel in the summer of 2018. Winners that are 15 can defer the trip to 2019 to meet the age requirement. Applicants must live in Bay, Saginaw, Tuscola, or Genesee counties.


Prizes: 1st - Up to $3000 / 2nd - $2000 / 3rd-$1000
Prize money is used for LYEP Travel and other eligible expenses.

History of the LEAP Alliance
Since early in 2011, representatives of 24 LCMS churches/schools in the Great Lakes Bay Region have collaborated on strategic planning and action - The Sustainable Lutheran Schools Project, seekins to affirm, support, and enhance Christian educational ministries in our churches and schools. The structure, planning, and actions have been known as the Lutheran Education Advancement Plan (LEAP), with a vision statement that has been and remains:  Advance Lutheran Education for Future Generations Across the Great Lakes Bay Region.  

There are more stories of LEAP plans and actions that have been carried out, are occurring, or are anticipated. Some of those plans and actions are slated to be featured monthly in the Parent Newsletter. Read upcoming issues for more information on LEAP.
Guidance Corner
MICHIGAN COLLEGE MONTH
Throughout the month of October, seniors are encouraged to begin working on their college applications. Mrs. Mueller is in Academic Seminars every Friday during the month to answer questions, process document requests, and help students through the process. Many colleges in the state of Michigan also waive application fees for the month of October. See the list here or check the Class of 2018 Google Classroom page for more information.

PSAT/NMSQT EXAM
Students who took the PSAT/NMSQT exam can expect their scores released online on Monday, December 11th. We will be holding a PSAT RESULTS NIGHT on Tuesday, December 12th at 7:00pm to go over score reports and to talk about next steps in the SAT testing process. Some financial strategies will also be discussed in regards to the FAFSA and setting up your personal finances for the coming college costs.

Holy Cross Hosting Annual Sauerkraut Supper
Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 600 Court St., in Saginaw, is hosting its annual Sauerkraut Supper from 5-7pm on Thursday, Oct. 26. Menu items include sauerkraut, brats, pork loin, mashed potatoes, carrots, rolls, beverages, and dessert. The cost is $11 for adults and $7 for students ages 6-12. Children 5 and under are free. A bake sale will also take place in the school gym. Tickets are available in the church office or at the door. Takeouts are available.
Trinity Monitor Hosting Harvest Dinner
Trinity Monitor, 20 E. Salzburg Road, in Bay City, is hosting its annual Harvest Dinner from 11:30am to 1:30pm on Sunday, Oct. 29. The menu includes homemade pork sausage and beef. The cost is $10 for adults, while children 6-12 are $5. Kids 5 and under are free. Take outs are also available for $10. For more information, contact Sandy Herzberger at 989-274-2397.
St. Peter Turkey Trot Nov. 4
Join Tri To Finish for the 6th Annual St. Peter Turkey Trot in Hemlock on  Saturday, Nov. 4. Races start at 9am at St. Peter Lutheran School and include a 10k and 5k, which are sanctioned by USA Track and Field. To register, visit the  Tri to Finish website. Proceeds from the event benefit students at St. Peter Lutheran School.
