A DOLPHIN IS SAVED
Becky Herrin from MCSO sends regards and tells us : In the midst of the chaos and storm damage, a rescue story:
Today, a homeowner on Rocky Road, Sugarloaf Key was looking out one of his window while working on storm damage in his house at 11 a.m. He spotted what looked like a porpoise stranded in some mangroves on a flat offshore. He called to report it to the Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers, Veterinarian Dr. Doug Mader and Brandon Paquin from Dolphins Plus sprang into action. They waded out to the stranded female and carried her to deeper water where she swam away.
Dr. Mader, who owns Marathon Veterinary Hospital, said it appears she had not been stranded too long because she only had minor sunburn visible on her skin. He is hopeful she will be fine, however if she had remained there long she may have suffered much more sun damage. He thinks perhaps she washed in with one of the recent very high tides in the area.

The Anne McKee Artists Fund of the Florida Keys, Inc. announces a Call to Artists for the 2018 Fine Art Auction, to take place on Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Studios of Key West.
The submission period for artwork opens on Sunday October 1st and closes on November 10
th.
To submit an online application and an accompanying photo(s) via the online entry form, go to www.mckeefund.org. Artists will be notified of acceptance no later than December 1
Due to space and time limitations, we are only able to accept 50 entries. The Anne McKee Artists Fund of the Florida Keys, Inc., in its sole discretion, determines whether or not art submitted will be accepted for auction.
The annual art auction raises money for project-based grants to Keys visual, literary and performing artists. Under the guidance of auctioneer Tom Luna, attendees can bid on original paintings, sculpture, photography, fiber art, ceramics, mixed media, jewelry and more.
Each participating artist receives 50 percent of the proceeds from the sale of his or her work, while the McKee Fund receives the remainder to award to other Keys artists for select projects. Founded by longtime Key West resident Anne McKee, the not-for-profit fund has awarded more than $275,000 since 1994.

We hope this message finds everyone OK! The KWBG staff are all good. Since the storm we have been busy getting the office & visitors center moved to the new location. We are just a tad delayed due to the storm, but will be open for visitors on Monday, October 2nd. Please update your records to reflect our new address, 808 Duval Street. Just A couple of Notes
The Rainbow Ribbon Cutting Ceremony that was scheduled for Monday (Oct. 2nd) has been postponed. A new date & time will be announced soon.
The KWBG October Luncheon (Oct. 4th) that was scheduled has been postponed until October 11th. Please watch for future emails to RSVP.
The KWBG October Mixer is still scheduled for October 11th. Please watch for emails on location.
The Headdress Ball is still scheduled for October 26th and will take place at the amphitheater on the Truman Waterfront as planned.
