PTSA NEWS
'COMMUNITY CREATES SUCCESS' & THE IS TRIPOD

When I was in China I bought this piece of pottery from a museum store in Xi-an. This three legged pot is approximately 11th century. The three legged pot like a tripod is a very stable design that was used all over the world for that very characteristic and still used today.

I like to compare our PTSA theme this year "Community Creates Success at IS" to the tripod. Each leg represents a supporting structure of our community. Membership in our PTSA is one leg of support. Financial support is another leg and participation is the third leg. Our IS community sits on top of this supporting structure.

I have been talking about membership the last couple of weeks and reason we need every family supporting us as a member. As we kick off our Fall fundraising campaign, this financial support is necessary to keep our IS community stable and successful. In the next couple of weeks, you will receive a letter from our PTSA. This letter will ask for you to become a PTSA member and to support our fundraising campaign by donating $75 per family.

For many of you, The PTSA membership and a generous donation is already completed. Thank you for your continued support! The third leg necessary to keep our community stable is participation. Stay tuned for more on this in the coming weeks.

Best,
Meribeth Nordloef-Pedersen
ISPTSA President 2017-2018
"Community Creates Success at IS"
HAVE YOU HEARD?

The 9/17 issue of the Puget Sound Business Journal listed the top high schools in the Puget Sound area. The Top three schools were choice schools, had 99% graduation rate, were ranked in the top 100 nationally. International School was #2. Tesla Stem HS and the International Community School, both in Lake WA school District were ranked No. 1 and No. 3 respectively.

What is missing from our school that their school has? 100% PTSA membership. If you are reading this and have not joined PTSA this year, there is not a better incentive than those numbers to convince you that Community creates Success at IS. Please join here Over 450 PTSA parents, teachers and students have joined ISPTSA to date.  We need 130 more members to be at 100%. Check out our membership roll.

NEW ISPTSA TRAVEL TUMBLERS

ISPTSA is selling these wonderful tumblers this year. These are dual wall insulated stainless steel tumblers with our new ISPTSA logo. They carry 14 ounces of liquid, cold or hot, with a swivel lid with drink thru opening with plastic ring seal to stave off spills. The cost is $17 for PTSA members and $20 for non-members. Cash check or charge( only in person).

You can buy one or more of these tumblers at our General meetings this year BUT we are working on having the tumbler available online. Stay tuned. If you would like to purchase a tumbler, send in a check to IS PTSA 445 128th Ave SE Bellevue WA 98005. PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
In September International had the honor of hosting two international groups. On September 29, we welcomed Emmanuel Lebrun-Damiens, Consul General of France in San Fransisco and Jack Cowan, Honary Consul of France in Seattle along with Marie-Ange Wood the executive director of the Aliance Francaise.
Earlier in the month 30 Administrators and technology experts from Holland toured our school to learn our innovative use of technology. Both groups were very impressed with our program.
A focus for the IS faculty this year is to develop learning partnerships. International connections help us to access resources and learn new opportunities for our students.

I'd like to make a mobile Skype/Presentation station with it, and have already requested a PTSA grant for a Skype-ready camera. A big thank you to the family who donated this cart, as well.

With exciting guest lecturers from local businesses to dynamic field trips to local companies, students learn how to develop and run an enterprise in a fun, projects-based approach.
