A Catalog of Protocols for the Internet of Things

Postscapes has published a catalog of protocols used in IoT devices and applications, aiming to provide clarification "with IoT layer technology stack and head-to-head comparisons." The 75 protocols listed are classified -- and occasionally misclassified -- into the following categories:

Infrastructure
Identification
Communications and Transport
Discovery
Data protocols
Device Management
Semantic
Multi-layer Frameworks

The document also presents several architecture frameworks or protocol stacks, copied from other resources (with attribution). The description of each protocol is skimpy, but has a link to the original source. Don't expect this to add insights, but as a glossary and catalog, it is a useful resource.

MBE, Automation and IoT in Smart Manufacturing

The next technical meeting of the Object Management Group will feature a special forum, open to non-members on Model-Based Engineering, Automation and the Internet of Things in Smart Manufacturing. This takes place all day, Wednesday 6 December, in Burlingame, Calif. (just off of San Francisco airport). The (very full) program and registration instructions can be found at the above link. The cost is $99 per person and includes lunch. Uwe Kaufmann (ModelAlchemy) led the organization of this event and Claude Baudoin (cébé IT & Knowledge Management) will be the "master of ceremonies" for the day.

	Data Residency Tutorial in Burlingame
Claude Baudoin will repeat his tutorial on Data Residency on the morning of Tuesday 5 December during the OMG's next meeting in Burlingame, Calif. The tutorial is open to non-members but you need to ask for a guest pass.

Blooming Stream

cébé now hosts, from its base near San Francisco, the US operations of Bizfocus Solutions, a Paris-based startup whose Blooming Stream software provides a complete package for small and medium companies that operate in the "subscription and usage economy." This Software as a Service (SaaS) solution integrates proprietary software for the management of subscriptions with the SAGE financial package and the Salesforce customer relationship management system. Blooming Stream offers customers a seamless environment to manage customers that need to be billed repetitively for small amounts. Contact us for more information.

CSCC to Update Multiple Guides -- Call for Participation

The Cloud Standards Customer Council (CSCC) is in the process of updating several of its "practical guides" written or last updated three years ago. These include in particular the foundational "Practical Guide to Cloud Computing" (currently on version 2) as well as the more specialized "Security for Cloud Computing: 10 Steps to Ensure Success," "Migrating Applications to Public Cloud Services" and "Interoperability and Portability for Cloud Computing" papers.

This is an ambitious agenda for the 4th quarter of this year, and besides needing help to review and revise those guides, the CSCC is eager to hear from professional cloud users who can help us identify and address any changes in the cloud market since 2014 that affect the contents. Please contact the CSCC Program Manager, Tracie Berardi, to participate. No contribution is too small: adding or updating a single paragraph is sometimes all it takes to improve a document's relevance to its readers.
