The nominating committee for the Jefferson Park Neighborhood Assn seeks your help!! Four of the five officers have reached their term limits. An all-inclusive board is why Jefferson Park has an Historic District, street signs that declare it historic, NR-1 zoning and the clarification of the R-1 zoning in Tucson to prohibit group dwellings. Consider volunteering to join the group.
Think about it for a moment. It is likely that every home in our neighborhood, including yours, has benefited from at least one of these efforts of your board. All welcome.

These cases were donated by neighbor Nancy Martin, then turned over to neighbor Bob Schlanger who scraped and removed the damaged plexiglas (and made them water tight). Mark Bargar of North American Powder Coating then donated the work to powder coat the cases in a lovely copper color.
|
And many thanks to our Little Free Library host Ken Wiley who donated his corner, painted his wall, created foundations and pathways for this wonderland of free literacy.
Mary Worthen, Area 1 Rep will help Ken monitor the books. The bench was the handiwork of neighbor Joanne Osuna.

When a Red Tag goes to Court

Recent Red Tag hearing prompts some insights
|
|
JPNA red tag committee head Colleen Nichols attended a recent red tag hearing for a home in our neighborhood. Another neighbor also attended. Here are the insights gleaned from that court appearance:
1) It really, really helps if someone from the neighborhood shows up, either a board member or, better yet, the affected household. Otherwise the judge just listens to the red tag recipients' sad story, and could possibly find in their favor.
2)
It really helps if TPD shows up. In this case, two officers attended, and we are grateful for that. Many thanks to the TPD Red Tag Team who brought statistics for this particular hearing, Officer Perez and Officer Silva.
3)
Be cautious about giving prior "permission" for a party. If a neighbor gives prior "permission" to the hosts to hold their party, the judge may hold that in their favor to reduce fines or penalties.
If someone comes to you beforehand to tell you that they plan to hold a party,
you might say, "Thank you for informing me, but we know how difficult it is to control noise and behavior, and we will not hesitate to call 911 if it gets out of hand."
If you make a call to 911, you should relay the exact address and specific events which are occurring - # of cars, # of people, any suspected of underage, evidence of alcohol, noise level etc.
4)
It helps if more than one person calls in - so if you have reported an unruly gathering, call a neighbor and encourage them to also call it in.

In this case, the residents were fined a total of $500 for 2 red tags (two residences were tagged) and they can do community service in lieu of payment. Perhaps they could do community service in our neighborhood.

Citizens' Task Force Meeting

Grant Road Citizens Task Force to meet October 19, 5:30 at the Donna Liggins Center, 2160 N 6th Ave. This panel of citizens meets to review the progress of the Grant Road Project. There is a comment period for the audience.

Monday, October 11, the UA graduate landscape design class visited the Grant Road site to discuss their assignment.
Students will create landscape designs for the remnant lots from Park to Santa Rita.
|
Neighbors attending stressed native vegetation, water harvesting and visual mitigation for the bordering homes. This community outreach will give the neighborhood some fine ideas. We look forward to the November presentations!

Another Grant Submitted for Grant Road Remnants
|
The Grant Road Coalition in partnership with the RTA, Tucson Clean and Beautiful, and City of Tucson submitted a grant proposal to the AZ Forestry Division entitled "Tucson Forest Pathway: Proactively Re-purposing Remnant Parcels with Trees". January 8, 2018: Demolition of buildings on Lester 1802, 1812-16, 1716, 1718, 1748, 1754. Heavy equipment noise impact during work hours 6:00AM to 4:00PM
March 5, 2018: Central Plant goes live
May 8, 2018: Vacate all UA occupied buildings, overall site work begins on North and South areas of the Tower Expansion and at the front entry Pavilion
January 15, 2019: Substantial completion of Main Tower Expansion
April 1, 2019: Go live, Heads in beds

Our neighbor-neighborhood celebrates its second home tour. Tickets are $10. Proceeds go to neighborhood projects. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the tour in front of Salpointe High School on Copper St. To purchase ahead call Jane at 427-4532.
Each house will have raffle tickets 3/$10 and prizes include coupons for Blue Willow, Brushfire BBQ, Mark's Ace Hardware, Plaza Liquor, Local art work and jewelry, Roadhouse tickets and many other. The informative book " SAMOS: Stories that Built a Neighborhood" will also be on sale.

Let me "Rock You" in Campbell/Grant

A recent project in our neighbor neighborhood Campbell/Grant can not go unnoticed!
They had a painting party and painted rocks to place in unsuspecting neighbors yards!
Reminds us of the song "Let me Rock You", but in such a nice way and with a new twist!
Somebody had a good idea.
