MCS
Heroes of the Week

Chris Lucas

Congratulations to this week's Heroes John Hellriegel and Chris Lucas. Congratulations and enjoy your up-close parking spot next week!

A Note to Mr. Hellriegel, Bible Teacher:
"Our fifth graders have been enjoying your Bible class so much! Students + Parents alike have told us what a joy it is to learn from you. You are passionate about Jesus and have been doing an amazing job at sharing that passion with our students. Thank you for coming "downstairs" to be with our kids!"

"Passionate + theologian + brilliant + dedicated + tireless + hard working + committed + learner + Godly example + example of Jesus to kids + expert + leader + blessing to MCS + Kingdom leader and one who impacts the Kingdom daily = John Hellriegel"

A Note to Mr. Lucas, Band Teacher:
"Thank you for the genuine and heartfelt way that you lead our students in worship at chapel every week. It is clear that the Holy Spirit is working through you to draw our students closer to the heart of Jesus. You model true reverence for God to our students and they LOVE worshipping along with you. You are a hero for our elementary kids!"

Elementary Chapel - "What is Worship?"
What is Worship
What is Worship
The 1st-3rd grade students explored the idea of worship stemming from Ex. 33:10 when the Israelites stood at the entrance to their tents to worship when they saw the pillar of the cloud of God's Presence in their midst.

Romans 12:1 says that we offer our lives to God as our spiritual way to worship - God cares about what we do, and how we do it. This little video set up our hearts to sing our worship.

Family Question: What do you see in carpool every day that reminds you about MCS and worship? How does Colossians 3:23 help us think about living our whole lives as worship?

Camp TK-Care
CAMP TK-Care enjoyed a fun week of s'mores, reading time in the tent with flashlights,
and camp themed games!

Did You Miss the Fall Legacy Event Yesterday?
Grab a cup of coffee and a friend and enjoy this presentation from our first Legacy event with Dr. Kelly Flanagan.
For those of you who were unable to attend yesterday's Legacy Event, we don't want you to miss out!

Kelly Flanagan's discussion was a meaningful and thoughtful look at who we really are as God has made us versus the voices in our head that tear away at our true identity. His perspective as a psychologist and Christian provided many in the audience with a new awareness that what we believe about ourselves plays a big role in our relationship with God and our children.

Watch it when you have a chance. It is definitely worth your time.

Mariners Mighty Macatawa Tribe
The Mariners Mighty Macatawa Tribe, Orange Blossom Native Nation (OBNN), is seeking fellow Christian fathers with daughters aged 5 and above, attending Mariners Christian School (MCS) in TK  through fifth grade. Our program provides terrific opportunities for fathers to connect with their daughters in environments and through activities that many young ladies would not normally experience, such as camping, canoeing, archery, rock climbing, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, skiing, or anything outdoors.

For more information, please email [email protected] or register at www.OBNN.org.

Scouting Makes a Difference
Scouting Makes a Difference! As MCS parents, you want your son to grow up to be self-reliant, dependable and caring. Since 1910, Cub Scouts have been weaving lifelong values into fun and educational activities designed to assist parents by strengthening character, teaching participatory citizenship, promoting physical fitness and inspiring leadership. For over twenty years, Mariners Christian School has sponsored and supported Cub Scout Pack 0360, for boys in 1-5 grades at MCS.

Want to learn more? Contact Cubmaster Brian Cowell at [email protected] or Pack Chairman JR Richardson at [email protected].

8th Grade-Led Chapel

8th graders continue to step up in leadership and in answering God's call. This week's chapel was a perfect example of this leadership as 8th graders Noah Bahadoor, Ty Cafferelli, Carson Schmidt, and Luke Swardstrom led chapel by giving the message.

Their powerful message centered on the knots that we can get tied up in and the powerful truth that Jesus can untie any knot if we give it to Him and trust Him with it. Each of them shared their own personal testimony of a "knot" they have experienced and how, by giving it to God, he untied it. What a beautiful and powerful message all of us need hear! Thanks to Noah, Ty, Carson, and Luke for being obedient to God's call, willing to share, and leading us through God's word!

Shalimar
Last Friday was our first opportunity of the year to be Jesus' hands and feet in our community, and our middle school students represented in a BIG way!  We had a record number of attendance for our Shalimar visit, as 33 MCS students were eager to meet our friends from the Shalimar community.  We visited Shalimar 4 times last year, and God used our previous relationships with these students as building blocks for this year.

It was amazing seeing our students jump head first into loving these Shalimar kids, and watching relationships form so organically!  Several students volunteered to lead in a specific way, including Leila Bahnsen who shared a Spirit-filled message from Hebrews 12:1, and encouraged the students to run the race God has set before them, and that with His help they can be Olympians in that race!  Reagan O'Bryan and Katie Thies also stepped up to lead a craft where the students made "Gratitude Trees", writing what they were thankful for on the leaves of the tree.  Some students also took the opportunity to pray over a 7th grader from Shalimar who is going through a challenging time in her life.  What a beautiful picture of the Kingdom of God taking place right before our eyes!  Stay tuned on another opportunity to be involved in the work that God is doing at Shalimar!

SOCK-tober Share 2 Wear - October 17th
Do you have a favorite sports team?  This Tuesday our October Share 2 Wear theme is #1 Fan Day!!!  Our "share" focus this month is socks for homeless people, hence SOCK-tober!!!!  All socks brought in for Share 2 Wear this month will be handed out to homeless people at Lighthouse Homeless Shelter by our 7th graders during 7th Grade Serve and Solidarity Week.

New socks for adults are preferred, but Lighthouse will also take used socks that are in very good condition.  You can participate in this month's Share 2 Wear, by bringing in one or more pairs of socks to "share", then you may "wear" #1 Fan attire!  You can select your favorite sports team and dress up like a #1 fan!  This includes jerseys, uniforms, sports team shirts, hats (outside only), socks, or other accessories, to support your favorite team.  All school dress code guidelines apply. Athletic bottoms may be worn because it fits the theme, but school dress code guidelines apply for shorts and leggings/yoga pants.  Board shorts are not permitted for this theme.   If you don't have bottoms that go with the theme, then blue jeans or uniform bottoms must be worn.  Students should very clearly be dressed in the theme, or in uniform attire.  All school dress code guidelines apply. Socks will be collected in Homerooms first thing that morning.

Let's be a blessing to the homeless people in our community and bring in some great socks to keep their feet warm this winter!  We will also crown a new homeroom champion with our Share 2 Wear trophy for the month of October!
