Presidential Visit
President Sirleaf Visit
St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School students in grades 5-12 and their teachers had the opportunity to hear from Liberian President and St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School Grand Viking Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on Wednesday, September 27th. During her speech, the Nobel Peace Prize recipient talked about the importance of education. "The pursuit of education is the best thing a young person can do," she told the 400 students gathered in St. Anne Church's Visitation Hall. She noted she was especially excited to  visit the school where her grandchildren, 12-year-old Samira and 10-year-old Ebreem, are studying. In taking questions from students, she spoke about the importance of her faith and prayer life; how terrifying the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Liberia was; her plans after her presidency; and the importance of reaching out to others and cultivating relationships. When asked if she liked pizza, she laughed and said, "I like pizza...but I'm afraid of pizza, because it's got too many calories!" Before she departed, Madame President was presented an honorary diploma from St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School, making her both a Grand Viking and alumna.

Discovering Density
Discovering Density
Eighth graders enjoyed determining and comparing the density of two sets of pennies in Science. Penny Set A was minted before 1983. Penny Set B was minted after 1983. Before 1983, pennies were made entirely of copper. After 1983, pennies were made of zinc with a copper coating. During this exercise, students had to draw conclusions about the composition of pre- and post-1983 pennies, determining which metal was added based on pennies' densities.
Learning to Type
Puppy Week Fun
Art Opportunities
Our freshmen are learning to type the old fashioned way...with a cereal box! Although it can be frustrating at first, our 9th graders are learning to type without looking at the keyboard.
Puppy Week at Pacelli focused on fostering relationships. Each freshman was paired with a senior and participated in themed days, lunchtime competitions, and traditions which root our Viking spirit.
High School Art Teacher Mrs. Allison Wilbanks launched several after-school opportunities for high school students who love art, including Open Art Studio and Culinary Art Club.

ATHLETICS
Go Vikings!
Did you know that over 88 percent of our middle and high school students play on one or more of our 12 sports teams? There's so much to celebrate this fall in Viking Athletics!
  • The JV/Varsity Vikings Football theme this year is "No Shortcuts," which means our players are focused on getting back to the basics and doing the little things right. "They are a very young team with several freshmen starting on both sides of the ball," says Vikings Football Head Coach Mark LeGree. "The goal is to always improve each week. The Vikings have already scored more touchdowns than they did last year with eight and still have four football games left." Coached by John Pierce, the Middle School Vikings Football Team has won one game against the Cougars at Brookstone and another against The Heritage School. The Middle School Vikings Football Team's last game is October 10th at home versus The Heritage School.
  • Our Middle and High School Vikings Spirit Cheerleading Teams are doing a great job pumping up the crowds at our football games and pep rallies! On September 30th, our Vikings Competition Cheerleading Team will compete at Columbus State University.
  • With seven seniors leaving last year, JV and Varsity Volleyball started rebuilding from the ground up. Each player came out with a positive attitude every time they hit the court. "This year the Lady Vikings will lose four amazing seniors - Mara McKenna, Scout Hadley, Catherine Boyd and Olivia Morgan," says Vikings Volleyball Coach Evelyn Chester. "As the season ends, the rising class looks forward to growing and becoming better volleyball players than when they first started." The Middle School Lady Vikings Volleyball Team is celebrating a super season! Under the direction of Coach Lenora Clark, the team won matches against St. Luke, Brookstone, Baker Middle School, The Heritage School, Lee County Middle School, Wynnbrook Christian School and Glenwood School this year.
  • Under the direction of Coach Brian Robinson, the Middle School Golf Team is celebrating two victories so far this season - one against St. Luke, the other against Independents/Harris County. The team's next match is Monday, October 2nd at Godwin Creek Golf Course against St. Luke.
  • It has been a great month to be a Cross Country Viking! High School Cross Country Coach Noreen Rodriguez says, "We are proud of our team's progress thus far, improving in strength, knowledge, and appreciation of the sport of Cross Country." Middle School Cross Country Coach Maggi Horton says the 5th-8th grade runners have been working hard weekly, and achieving their goals left and right. St. Anne-Pacelli 7th grader Ann-Marie Robinson placed 8th in the St. Luke Girls Cross Country Meet, with a 15:20 minute 2 mile run.
  • The Elementary and Middle School Tennis Teams are off to a great start! So far, our Elementary Teams have won a few singles matches against Clubview and St. Luke; our U12 Red Team won three of four lines in a match versus St. Luke; our U12 Blue Team won all four lines played versus both Club View and Harris County; and our U14 team won by one game against Richards!
