DAY CENTER UPDATES

Our Playground Project is almost complete! We will be having a Ribbon Cutting for the new playground on October 28th at 10 AM at the Day Center. If you would like to attend please email RSVP to [email protected] or wait to get your invitation in the mail.

DATES TO REMEMBER

Volunteer Training, 10-10-17 at the Day Center, 5-6:30 PM - This training is for anyone who wants to volunteer with their congregation doing meals, hosting and overnights. All volunteers must go through training. Please RSVP if you will be attending to Jennifer at [email protected] to ensure adequate space is available
Homeless to Home Luncheon , 10-17-17 from 11:30-1:30 - This month will be in Venice at the Jacaranda West County Club located at 1901 Jacaranda Blvd. This is a networking and information gathering luncheon sponsored by the Steve and Janine Marrone Foundation. Lunch is no charge to you and many concerned individuals in South County attend these luncheons to get and give information. It is open to the public. National Family Promise Week, October 22-29, watch for special information going out.
Coordinator Meeting, 10-26-17 from 5:30-6:30 PM at South Venice Baptist Church. Pizza and drinks will be provided. This meeting is for Host and Support Coordinators at the congregations.
Playground Ribbon Cutting, October 28th at 10 am, Invitation and more information to go out in September.
Family Promise of South Sarasota County first annual DREAM WALK, November 11th, SAVE THE DATE: Family Promise of South Sarasota County is planning it's inaugural fundraising event - A downtown Venice DreamWalk because Every Child Deserves Housing. Make a walk team and join us to stamp out family homelessness. Saturday, November 11, 9am start at Venice Presbyterian Fellowship Hall. Sign up at www.familypromisessc.org and click on Dream Walk. Sponsorships also available.

FAMILY UPDATES

Terry Winfrey's daughter and her husband donated this van to one of our families without transportation.

Now this single mom in our program will have a much easier time getting where she needs to go and accomplishing her goals!

DAY CENTER NEEDS

List of Day Center needs for our families

8 oz bottled water

Speedway $15 fuel only gas cards

Lysol spray & wipes

Paper towel and toilet paper

Publix and Walmart gift cards *follow-up care and **support of sized items

Baby wipes

Nutritional snacks and juice drinks (individual size)

*Food stamps do not cover some items so we try to provide other resources and/or expensive items so the families can save money on groceries in follow-up care

**We do not take diapers, clothes and shoes as we never know what sizes we will need and have very limited storage. We buy those items for the families with the gift cards when we know what we need.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

I have been so glad to hear that everyone made it through the storm okay. We have resumed normal operations and I wanted to let you all know that something wonderful came out of this storm. The single mom in our program went to stay with her father up north and before that this the relationship was a little rocky. When she got back, I heard about how he fell in love with his grandson that he had not yet met and reconnected with his daughter. Since returning to the program after the storm, I have spoken to our families relatives and they are all being extremely supportive of her now and I could not be more excited for her.
