Grand Prairie West

What a great start to the 2017-2018 school year! Our staff and students are on a Quest for Excellence and our cheer is "West is on a Quest to be Our Best!" Thank you for working together with us to have an amazing year of learning!
Attendance Counts

Attendance Incentives & Goals

Help us reach our goal: At least 98% of all GPW scholars will be in attendance every day!

We are COUNTING attendance for each student each day:

Each Student with Perfect Attendance will receive special recognition each 9 weeks.

Each class is posting attendance percentages each day outside of classroom doors. Each 3rd period class who has 100% attendance for the day will receive special recognition on the announcements as they work toward Star Attendance goals!

Each grade level daily attendance percentage is posted in the cafeteria to encourage everyone to be in school!

Watch for details about our special rewards and incentives for perfect attendance and achieving our attendance goal!

Ms. Gilder, our attendance clerk, sent home notes about Remind, a communication tool that will help you stay connected about your child's attendance! Contact Ms. Gilder if you have questions.
Arrival and Dismissal
Keeping Our Scholars Safe

Breakfast is served from 7:15-7:45 AM, so students who arrive at 7:15 should go into the cafeteria. No student should be dropped off at school prior to 7:15 AM. Students who arrive at 7:30 are monitored in the gym or courtyard area. Students are escorted to their classrooms at 7:45 and the tardy bell rings at 7:50 AM. Students who arrive after 7:50 AM should check-in at the front office.

For dismissal, parents or guardians who are picking up students must have a pick-up placard. Parents who do not have a placard will be asked to go to the front office to get a temporary or replacement card. Thank you for moving through the pick-up lane and parking only in the outside spots. Be sure your child's teacher knows how your child will be getting home, and if you must change the method of pick-up, contact the school.

Our number one priority is the safety of all students. Thank you for your teamwork in this endeavor!

Happy Birthday!
Birthdays are important!

We announce student birthdays as part of our daily announcements and students are invited to receive a birthday pencil. We must follow the state of Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and Advantage Academy's Wellness Policy in reference to birthday celebrations in the classrooms. Please note: TDA suggests that Birthday parties be held after the lunch period of the celebrating class, and preferably, the last class period of the day.   The Wellness Policy states (p. 7): Celebrations:  Schools should limit celebrations that involve food during the school day to no more than one party per class per month .  It is recommended that parties be held at the end of the school day.

GP West is asking that each teacher designate a day of the month that they will allow students to bring treats to celebrate birthdays during that month. We ask that any items be store-bought with the ingredients listed (so the teacher may monitor for food allergies) and we would prefer that families send non-food items like party favors such as pencils or small trinkets. These birthday treats would only be distributed during the final period of the day. Please refer to the district's online Student-Parent Handbook for more information.
