The Lesson of a Lifetime 

Construction instructor Jim Luckow is teaching his students at the JTED @ Star Storm Center that they can do much more than build walls, they can build and restore hope and faith in people who have lost nearly everything. After watching flood waters brought on by Hurricane Harvey ravage neighborhoods in Houston, Mr. Luckow and 10 of his students started a gofundme campaign to raise funds so they can travel during their fall break to help Texans rebuild their homes.

Daniel Conrad

Daniel Conrad took on extra responsibility in high school when he enrolled in our Law, Public Safety and Security program seven years ago. Now he has greater responsibility transporting inmates and protecting the Pima County Courthouse as a Corrections Officer for the Pima County Sheriff's Department. 

We caught up with Daniel as he spent his Saturday once again at the Public Service Academy helping our new Law and Public Safety students overcome obstacles to pursue their own rewarding careers in public service.

JTED Helps Schools Score Big

The Arizona State Board of Education developed a new grading system for traditional public and charter schools with the goal to be more fair and equitable, to offer a student level focus, and to be more transparent and easier to understand. 

The 9-12 plan includes a focus on College and Career Readiness, an area in which Arizona's JTED districts are poised to help schools score well. 

Pima JTED and ACOVA, a professional group for Career and Technical Education Administrators, have put on several workshops to help educators better understand the mechanics of the new grading system and how to maximize their schools' grades. Contact us if you'd like more information.

Many of our students live either close to or below poverty level and can't afford to purchase items that are required to complete their JTED program, such as steel-toe boots or stethoscopes, or to pay for their program's  industry or State certification. The JTED Fund was established to help these students pursue their education so that they may become economically independent. 

Mr. Miguel Cruz, Vice President of Marketing for Tucson Federal Credit Union (right) presented our Governing Board Chair Alex Jacome (left) and Superintendent Dr. Alan L. Storm with a big check for the JTED Fund during the Board's regular September meeting to help more students successfully enter college and careers.

The $10,000 gift is part of the Tucson Matters 2017 Legacy Grant. We're thankful to TFCU's Susan Stansberry, President/CEO, Matthew Gaspari, COO, Marsha Jacquay, CFO, and Robyn Austin, Community Liaison for helping make a lot of great things possible for our students.
