E-Courier for Sunday, October 1, 2017

THIS WEEK

(October 1-7)

Deacons' Offering
Sunday, October 1
This month's special offering is designated to help our members and others in our community who are in need through our Mercy Ministry. The deacons wish to thank the congregation for their generous giving throughout the year, which has helped many families. Please give as the Lord leads you.

Titus 2 Begins this Week
Titus 2 is a group mentoring ministry in the form of a book club. Book review groups gather for the purpose of spiritual training as described in Titus 2:1-5. Such training is accomplished through the study of a strategically chosen book in the area of character, doctrine, or practical living.  This is a place for women to get connected to other women in the church through a small group environment. Titus 2 meets once a month beginning in October. See our Titus 2 webpage for a list of books, groups, and a link to register.

Women's Bible Study: Elijah
Begins Thursday, October 5 | 7-8:30 PM
Please join us for a four-week women's Bible study on the prophet Elijah. The study will be held on Thursdays in October from 7-8:30 PM. Click here to find details and registration.

Special Mercy Offering
Sunday, October 15
On October 15 we will be doing a mercy offering for Hurricane Harvey and Irma disaster response. The donation will be given to The PCA's Mission to North America (MNA) Disaster Relief, which we support because of their biblical approach to assistance that benefits both body and soul. If you will not be in church that Sunday or would like to give online, you can give directly to support their work at http://pcamna.org/disaster-response.

Volunteer to Serve Children

It takes just 30 minutes to 1 hour a week to help a child succeed and to show the love of Jesus! Join us as a lunch encouragement buddy to a child in Matthews Elementary or a reading buddy to a Crestdale Middle student or a First Ward Elementary student uptown. This time makes a huge impact on the lives of these children and their families, as well as gives great support to our schools and community. See our Get Involved webpage for more details.

Please contact Brendan Kelly for Matthews Elementary and Crestdale Middle School, and Karen Troutman for First Ward Creative Arts.

Help Build a Habitat House!
Join us as we assist in building a Habitat House for the Kingombe family in the Crestdale community in Matthews!

Upcoming Christ Covenant Church build days are October 21 (3 volunteers needed) and November 18 (7 volunteers needed). No construction background is necessary, but builders must be at least 17 years old (or 16, accompanied by a parent). On October 21 and November 18 we need to provide 25 bag lunches for the site volunteers. Children are welcome to help prepare these meals!

If you are interested in serving or having your group serve on any of these dates, please contact Karen Chambers.

Our Community

Let Them Soar 5K
Saturday, November 4 | 8 a.m.
Christ Covenant Church and the His Abilities ministry is excited to host the Let Them Soar 5K, a fundraiser to support the work of The Exceptional Foundation. We are excited to be supporting the good work that TEF is doing to bless our community by creating a special place for those with special needs.

We are excited to host this event hoping that this will provide a positive experience and connection point with Christ Covenant Church for many outside our church community - a possible bridge to the church and to Christ for those whose lives have been touched by disability or runners and participants who love this community.

This is one of the ways that we are able to express our affirmation of the dignity of every human life as created in the image of God. Sign up to run or volunteer to help or just show up and support this event. For details on the race and a link to register, click here. You can participate by yourself, join a team, or even be a "Spirit Runner" (you get a t-shirt and don't have to run!). Questions? Contact Dave Baxter at [email protected]

Our Tithes and Gifts
Thank you for your tithes and gifts to all of the ministries of Christ Covenant. Don't forget to take advantage of our secure online giving. Please continue to pray for God's provision this calendar year. As a reminder, the Our Heritage pledge fulfillment period goes through December 2017.
