Why we do what we do
Dear Fr. Muir,

I wanted to take a minute to express my appreciation and sincere gratitude to the people of Saint Paul's Church for the warm embrace my husband and I experienced this past weekend while we were in town for Ironman Augusta. This was our first time in Augusta and my husband's first Ironman event. The relaxed atmosphere of the spaghetti dinner on Saturday night was something we enjoyed very much. The meal was simple and tasty, perfect for the night before a big endurance event. During dinner, we enjoyed talking with other athletes and their families as well as an extended conversation with Cobbs (whose granddaughter happens to attend the same high school as our daughter here in Charlotte, NC!). Sunday morning, I walked past the front of the church about 5:30 AM and the front doors of the church were wide open and the sanctuary was brightly lit, welcoming all who sought a few quiet moments. Once my husband returned from setting up his transition area, we took advantage of your hospitality once again with bagels and coffee and "indoor plumbing" until shortly before his swim start. I am a lifelong Episcopalian, and we are members at St. Peter's in Charlotte. What we experienced this weekend at Saint Paul's, as a nervous first time Ironman participant and an anxious wife was truly an embodiment of the old sentiment "The Episcopal Church Welcomes You." Thank you for seeking to serve others through this outpouring of love and support for athletes and their families. I found deep comfort while being there.

Sincerely,

M. H.

An Ironman Thank You

Dear Saint Paul's Family,
Wow, what a weekend! We had dozens of parishioners from age 5 to 80+ participate in our Saint Paul's Ironman Weekend. Thank you for welcoming athletes and their families and supporters to Saint Paul's and to the Augusta community through cooking, setting up, serving, cleaning, organizing, encouraging, giving directions, cheering, and demonstrating love and hospitality to our guests. Special thanks to our team captain this year: George Barrett with Swim Gear Drop, Susan Muir and Martha Scroggs with decorating and set-up, Eric Friedman with the Pasta Dinner, Ranie Neislar with the Cheer Station, and Anita Tanner with Hospitality and Cookie Baking and thank you to all the parishioners who worked so hard and demonstrated such love and kindness. Next year will be the 10 year anniversary of the Augusta Ironman 70.3 and we are already looking forward to a special celebration!

Thank you,
Kim Butler
