he 1 - 4 pm workshop "Emergent Strategy" with adrienne maree brown, is inspired by Octavia Butler's explorations of our human relationship to change, it is radical self-help, society-help, and planet-help designed to shape the futures we want to live. Change is constant. The world is in a continual state of flux. It is a stream of ever-mutating, emergent patterns. Rather than steel ourselves against such change, this book invites us to feel, map, assess, and learn from the swirling patterns around us in order to better understand and influence them as they happen. This is a resolutely materialist "spirituality" based equally on science and science fiction, a visionary incantation to transform that which ultimately transforms us.
This event is scheduled for October 1st, it will be a Black and Brown centered space where healing, visioning and dreaming can take place. We will offer workshops faciliated by adrienne, emancipation circles, children and family activities and a community meal. Your support will help ensure not only that this space will be able to take place, but that all of our partners are compensated for their labor.
The end of the event (4:30 -7:00 pm) will will feature an all-ages dance and performance space.

Imagine 2000 people simultaneously sharing an intimate dinner with a few neighbors. Imagine tantalizing food and even more intriguing stories. Imagine the happy excitement you feel when you connect with a new friend.
In this time of ideological polarity, we need real dialogue, safe spaces to come together as neighbors. This is what we're hoping to create with The Big Table. What better way to connect than over food and storytelling?!
People will be organized, at random, into tables of eight. Designated volunteers will help facilitate conversation.
We'll share stories about the food we bring, about meaningful tables, about our lives, about ourselves. There will be no central stage or entertainment schedule. The only goal will be to engage with each other, and leave as friends rather than strangers. And maybe we'll break a record! We are hoping for at least 2000 attendees, which would put Louisville on the map for holding the World's Largest Potluck

Who should come? Everyone!
We hope to engage the broad spectrum of the Louisville community.
What should I bring?
* Each person should bring a dish to share to feed at least 8 people.
Use a recipe with a family connection or something you just really like!
(We will not be supplying power or ice, so please use
coolers or insulating dishes to keep your food safe.)
* Serving utensils - We will provide plates, napkins and utensils.
* Drinks
* Please bring a recipe card so that we know ingredients
(if the recipe is a secret, a simple list will do!).
Please note: We will be marking vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free,
and nut-containing dishes, but we cannot promise those with allergies
will not come into contact with these things. These dishes are made in home kitchens
and no responsibility will be taken by the cook or the organizing committee.

Many of us wonder
how to stay clear, compassionate, and connected to our best self in these times of chaos and change. In a world filled with suffering and injustice, many of us struggle to live with greater courage, compassion, and wisdom. In a nation rife with political polarization, conflict and misunderstanding, we are challenged to transform the energy of our anger, anxiety and overwhelm into clear, effective action. In a time of political, social, and national discord, we can bring the best of ourselves to all we do.
Harry Pickens will explore simple and practical tools, based on emerging discoveries in neuroscience, that can help us rewire our brains for less stress, more joy and greater resilience even in these challenging times.
Harry is founder of BrainMind Redesign and Havening Louisville. He helps change agents experience more peace, harmony and clarity in their inner world so that they can be more powerful agents for compassion, justice and reconciliation in the outer world.

Tenth Annual Louisville Solar Tour
Begins at Copper and Kings, 1121 E Washington St., 40206
The the tenth annual Louisville Solar Tour opens with an 'Introduction to Solar Technology' session at Copper & Kings, which is free and open to the public. At 11 A.M., after the introductory session, tour participants will board a bus or join a group bike tour. The Solar Tour will then visit designated houses, churches and business locations featuring interesting solar installations. On site owners or installers will present briefly at each location. The Bus Tour is limited to 40 participants, and costs $15.00. The bike tour is free and open to the public.
After touring, the participants will gather at Apocalypse Brew Works to celebrate solar energy and socialize. Food trucks, tabling and refreshments will be at this solar powered brewery to enhance enjoyment as we finish the day.
This event is one of hundreds being held across the U.S. as part of the 22th Annual National Solar Tour of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES). The national and local tours are designed to demonstrate practical and economic solar solutions, and to encourage community conversations addressing the growing need for clean energy.
The 2017 Solar Tour is offered by a collaboration of non-profit volunteer organizations including KY Solar Energy Society, and Solar Over Louisville, as well as other dedicated volunteers. It is receiving support from a variety of organizations, including the Louisville Sierra Club, Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church, Copper & Kings, and Forward Radio.

In the world of play work in the United States, Morgan Leichter-Saxby is a leading expert. Trained in the United Kingdom, Morgan works with Pop-Up Adventure Play to help spread the play movement in the United States and Canada. In addition to helping train people about the complexities of working with children in free play environments, Morgan also advises organizations in the development of adventure playgrounds.
Play Worker Training 102 is a two-hour play worker training program targeted to educators, play workers, playground design professionals, parents and anyone with an interest in bettering their skills for working directly with children in free play environments. Participation doesn't require existing knowledge of the free play movement, but this workshop reaches a bit beyond the basics. For early childcare professionals in Kentucky, two hours of professional development credit through the ECE-TRIS system will be available.

Dr. Jacek Jasinski and "Distressed Oceans"

Please come and welcome Dr. Jasinski as he addresses the most severe threats currently affecting the world's oceans and their ecosystems. The presentation will emphasize the role of human activities in contributing to these threats as well as the observed and expected negative impacts that will affect humans in return. Topics covered will include pollution, invasive species, overfishing and, most importantly, climate change.
The topics of climate change and oceans relate directly to Jacek's professional life and personal passions. He is theme leader and scientist (physics and materials) at the Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research at U of L. There he works on the development of materials for clean energy technologies and improvements in energy efficiency in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In his personal life, Jacek and his wife Joanna pursue their passions for nature, travel, and outdoor activities. In the last two decades, they have explored more than forty national parks in the U.S. and Canada and have gone scuba diving in some of the most amazing places on Earth including The Galapagos, Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia. Between 2007 and 2013, they published several articles on their scuba diving trips in a Polish scuba diving magazine.

Maybe you have been connected to LSURJ through Facebook or email but you would like to know more about us. These welcoming one-hour newcomer/orientation sessions are meant to provide a brief overview of our mission, our values and our history. Plus, we'll show you some ways to get involved with more of the work from wherever you start from. No experience necessary, just a desire to help make racial justice a reality. Pick a time and location that works for you. Additional dates and locations will be added. We will be having these one-hour sessions monthly at public libraries. Each meeting will be capped at 20-30, depending on the size of the room at the library. We will monitor FB RSVPs and determine if there will be a need for "tickets".
This session scheduled at Mama's Hip offers play space for families with young kids. For other gatherings, there will not be dedicated space for child care provided, but kids of all ages will be welcomed in the meeting space. Please join us!
