ILENE GORDON TO RETIRE FROM INGREDION
Ilene Gordon, CEO of Ingredion, will retire next year. Ilene will serve as Executive Chairman of the company until her retirement in July.

It truly has been the highlight of my career and I have enjoyed every moment of it, we have successfully transformed the business, taking it from a 20th century supplier to a 21st century innovator. VENTAS RECOGNIZED FOR SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS
Ventas ( Debra Cafaro) has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index and has been ranked the top healthcare REIT by GRESB in its assessment of real estate environment, social and governance, or ESG, factors.

CRAIN'S ON FEMALE CEOS IN CHICAGO
Several Network members were mentioned in a Crain's article about the status of female CEOs in Chicago, including Ilene Gordon, Patricia Hemingway Hall, Theresa Mintle and Sally Blount.

Susan Gallagher, Vice chair/chair-elect of The Chicago Network and CEO of the U.S. operations of HR consultant BPI Group, was quoted. "One of the key attributes going forward will be resilience-the ability to react, bounce, act very fast. And I think women are very good at that," said Susan Gallagher. ILLINOIS MEDICAL DISTRICT TO GET LARGEST AMBULANCE GARAGE IN COOK COUNTY
Superior Ambulance Service, based in Elmhurst, is building the largest ambulance garage in Cook County within the Illinois Medical District, a Near West Side hub that buzzes with about 50,000 patients per day. The company will hire at least 100 new people as drivers, dispatchers and clerical staff. More than half of the new hires will be from neighborhoods surrounding the District, which include North Lawndale, East Garfield Park and Pilsen.

"The Medical District was created to be a geographic hub dedicated to health care, health education, biotechnology, tech innovation, and we also have the overarching mission of driving economic growth here on the Near West Side of Chicago," said Suzet McKinney, Executive Director of the Illinois Medical District. "We believe in economic development through job creation. Superior helps us meet those economic growth goals."

Several hospitals will be serviced through the new garage, including Rush University Medical Center (Cynthia Barginere), Cook County Health and Hospital System and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Read more...
AON PITCHES APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM TO OTHER CHICAGO FIRMS
Aon's ( Bridget Gainer and Cary Grace) apprentice program, which employees 25 students from Harold Washington College in the Loop and Harper Community College, was featured in a Crain's article that highlighted how Aon is encouraging other white-collar firms to adopt similar apprenticeship programs. 

Aon recently presented their apprenticeship program to 32 different companies based in Chicago or with a substantial presence. Hyatt ( Maryam Banikarim and Rena H. Reiss), KPMG ( Kathy H. Hannan), Walgreens and Adler Planetarium ( Michelle Larson) are among the companies that attended. Read more...

SUSANA MENDOZA CONFRONTS TOUGH GUY
Illinois State Comptroller Susana Mendoza was on a Sunday bike ride with her husband and 4-year-old son when a black pickup truck came barreling through a red light. The pickup later rear-ended a car, causing a multi-vehicle crash. Witnesses tried to stop him, but the driver of the black pickup was able to drive away before police arrived. He might never have been caught if it weren't for Susana, who rode up on her bike, saw the damage, helped the other drivers and confronted the man in the pickup. Nila Leiserowitz, regional managing principal of Gensler, and Dr. Joanne Smith, CEO of the AbilityLab, were quoted in a Modern Healthcare article that highlighted the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab as a Gold Award Recipient of Modern Healthcare's 2017 Design Awards. Architectural firms HDR and Gensler, in association with CWa and EGG Office, tackled the $407 million project in March. Gensler ( Nila R. Leiserowitz) + Haworth hosted their 6th annual Women in Design panel in LA on Tuesday, September 19. Moderated by Nila, the panel focused on issues facing women in the design industry and the bold, intentional moves needed to make the profession more inclusive.

Gensler ( Nila R. Leiserowitz) celebrated the opening of the new Plumbers Union Local 130 Training Center on Wednesday, September 13. The state-of-the-art facility, design by Gensler, will help lead the way to attract great talent to the trades.
