Town Administrator's E-Brief

From Town Administrator, Eric DeMoura           Town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

September 2017
Dear Mount Pleasant residents and business owners,

Happy Fall! I hope you and your fantasy football teams are doing well. Along with the start of the season, we have begun work on several major community projects. The Coleman Boulevard Improvement Project began this past month to improve drainage, mobility, and waterline capacity along this major corridor. We appreciate your patience and understanding during construction as we improve this critical area of town.

Another major initiative that we kicked off this month is the Comprehensive Plan update. A Comprehensive Planning forum of 34 community members was selected to provide input on this plan. The work of this forum is important, but equally as important is the community's involvement. Your participation in local government has never been more important than it is now. I encourage you to be heavily involved in the development of the new Comprehensive Plan by attending the monthly meetings and the community open house events. The first open house is scheduled for October 17th at Town Hall. I hope to see you there.

There are several other upcoming meetings and events scheduled for the next month, so I invite you to sign up to our Notify Me module and stay updated on the latest Town news, projects, and events. For more information about all that is happening in the Town of Mount Pleasant, please visit us online, like us on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter.

Best Regards,

Street Sign Replacement Program
To meet Federal Highway Administration requirements, the Mount Pleasant Transportation and Public Services departments have partnered in a joint street sign replacement program slated to begin in April. The capital improvement project will replace about 7,500 signs over the next five years, or roughly 1,500 signs per year. The Street Sign Replacement Program will include all street signs within the Town, with the exclusion of private roads and sideways. Existing signs will be removed if they are considered redundant or do not meet standards. Additional signs may be added where deemed applicable.

Comprehensive Plan Open House- Oct. 17th
All community members are invited to attend the Comprehensive Plan Open House at Town Hall on October 17th from 5 - 8 p.m. This event is the first of three open house events that will occur over the next year as the new Comprehensive Plan is developed. Community members can drop-in to ask questions, receive information and provide their input on the new Comprehensive Plan.

A new webpage has been created to keep you updated on all news related to the Comprehensive Planning Process. Click HERE to view the new site and check back often for updates.
Hurricane Irma Recovery
Though it seems as though everything is back to normal after Hurricane Irma, the truth is that clean-up operations are still underway. Since no declaration of emergency was issued for our area, the Town's 3rd party debris removal contracts could not be activated, so all debris removal must be completed by the Public Services Department staff. These employees have been working very hard since the storm to remove all debris from the community, but the clean-up process is often long and tedious. The Public Services Department provides regular updates on their progress on our website and social media accounts. For more information about the recovery process, click HERE.

A special thanks to all community members for their support during this storm event- especially to our public safety, public services, and emergency management staff.
Children's Day Festival- Oct. 15th
Old and new traditions delight at the 30th Annual Town of Mount Pleasant Children's Day Festival presented by Publix. East Cooper schools will provide fun games & families will enjoy carnival rides, enormous inflatable slides, live entertainment, wall climbing, face painting and many other activities. Admission, parking and all activities are free. Click HERE for more info.
Coleman Blvd. Improvements Begin
The Coleman Boulevard Improvement Project is an important infrastructure project for the Town of Mount Pleasant. Between the increased stormwater and waterline capacities and the mobility improvements, this project represents a true investment in the Town's future.

The project is broken out into several stages of work:

Phase 1: West Bound Coleman
Sept. 2017 - April 2018
Phase 2: East Bound Coleman
April 2018 - Dec 2018
Phase 3: Median Construction
Dec 2018 - May 2019
Phase 4: Final Paving
May 2019 - Aug 2019
