This Week at the Progressive Christian Campus Ministry
The Campus Ministry (PCCM) at Oxford Presbyterian Church warmly invites students, church and community members to attend worship and dinner on Saturday, September 30 starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Seminary Church (on the corner of Church and Poplar)
Our speaker will be John Wagner sharing on the worship theme - "Kairos: A Critical Moment". John is an ordained United Methodist minister and the co-chair of United Methodists for Kairos Response. UMKR was founded in 2010 by United Methodist clergy and laity in a grass roots effort to respond to the Palestinian Christians' call - in the "Kairos Palestine Document". He serves as the pastor of First United Methodist Church in Middletown.
As always, worship will be followed by a DELICIOUS and FREE dinner.

Breakfast and a Book - Born a Crime
Trevor Noah is coming to Miami University for Family Weekend. You are invited to join Pastor Lawrence to discuss Noah's memoir,
Born a Crime at Bob Evan's restaurant on Saturday, September 30 at 8 a.m. With insight and humor, Noah leads the reader through his experience of growing up under apartheid and then coming of age in the post-apartheid era. All are welcome to Breakfast and a Book as we engage this memoir that promises to stimulate great conversation.

Russian Mission Co-Worker Presentation
In worship Sunday, we welcome Ellen and Al Smith. Ellen is the PC(USA) regional liaison for Eastern Europe, facilitating support for partner programs, relationships and activities in Germany, Russia and Belarus. Together Ellen and Al, facilitate a congregational twinning program, pairing U.S. Presbyterian congregations with congregations in Russia.
Since 2005, the Oxford Presbyterian Church has developed a "twinning" relationship with the First Church of Zlatoust, Chelyabinsk, Russia and the Bishop of the Chelyabinsk region. Zlatoust, located 800 miles east of Moscow near Asia, is in the heavy industry region of modern Russia.
Following fellowship on Sunday, our
Journey Through the Bible - Bible Study and Discussion will take a break for the congregation to attend an informal presentation by the Ellen and Al. Gather with our mission co-workers in the lounge as they share many stories and images how the Lord is working through our brothers and sisters in Russia.
After their presentation, we will be taking them to dinner. All are welcome to come along. Please contact Bill Fisher ( [email protected]) if you would like to join us.

OPC Youth Journey Through the Bible: Race and Ethnicity.
All middle school and high school youth are invited to join Matt Lykins and Molly Todd during Sunday School time on Sunday, October 1st to continue the youth's Journey Through the Bible: Race and Ethnicity discussion. The high school youth will be introduced to a novel study surrounding Angie Thomas'
The Hate U Give

- On October 15, OPC's youth will attend a special outing at the Freedom Summer Memorial on Miami's Western Campus. They will be listening to Mrs. Sibyl Miller and her friend as they recount their experiences recruiting and registering voters during the Freedom Summer of 1964. We will eat lunch in town at noon (location TBA) and head out to Western immediately afterwards. The talk will occur around 1:00 p.m.
- Sunday, October 29, 2017 after church service will be the first youth mission trip fundraiser. We will have a luncheon in The Seminary. Tickets will be available beginning October 1. Tempus Fugit - Time Flies
One year ago, Pastor Lawrence invited members of the OPC family into a series of open and gracious conversations called "Listening is an Act of Love."
To mark the one-year anniversary of our ministry partnership together, Pastor Lawrence invites you to another series of conversations. Part fellowship and part reflection, we'll consider how the Holy Spirit has moved through our congregation over the last twelve months and is preparing us for the future.
Please join him at Kofenya on Tuesday, October 3 at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, October 5 at 2:30 p.m., and at the Quarter Barrel on Friday, October 6 at 4:30 p.m. You're welcome to come late, leave early, or linger with Pastor Lawrence in conversation.

Have been visiting Oxford Presbyterian Church (OPC) or worshipping with us regularly? If so, then please join our Discover OPC Class for Inquirers and New Members in the lounge after worship (approximately 11:30 - 1:00 p.m.) on Sundays, October 8 and 15.
The class is both fun and informative with childcare available.
In addition to full membership open to all adults, university students are encouraged to consider affiliate membership in OPC. As an affiliate member of OPC, you remain in good standing with your home congregation while still expressing your commitment to our fellowship as you study at Miami.

FINANCIAL SNAPSHOT
Teamwork keeps the ministry and mission of Oxford Presbyterian Church strong. In the month of August, contributions to our ministry noticeably declined to $20,699 from the $28,398 projected in the 2017 budget. One ruling elder reviewing the financial report at our last Session meeting named this decrease in tithes and offerings our "summer slumber".
While this one-month decline may be attributed to a predictable seasonal lull, we wish to affirm the significance of every OPC family member and every financial gift to our congregation. We encourage everyone who has pledged or tithed to our ministry to remain current in your giving.
All who give of their time, talents and treasures are all on the team. Please join one another in prayer about how the Lord is calling us to share our blessings as we live out our mission.

Miami University Gospel Singers (MUGS). The concert will take place on Saturday, October 7th, 1:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church (420 S Campus Ave across from the Miami University Student Health Center).
