Issue #174 - October 12, 2017

From the Carpenter's bench:
" The happiest people in the world are those who have found the life task to which they have been called...And the unhappiest are those who have not even begun to search..." - Robert Leslie

"A high school athlete asked Jesus, 'What must I do to be your follower?' Jesus said, 'Respect your teammates, obey your coach, work hard, play fair.' The athlete said, 'I do all this now.' Jesus said, 'If you want to be perfect, forget about player popularity and use your talent to coach unfortunate kids who have no one to teach or guide them.' When the young athlete heard this, he went away sad."

This past weekend I took my son to the Utah Swimposium in Provo where a couple of Olympians were presenting. Who knows Ian Crocker? He is an Olympic gold medalist who once beat Michael Phelps and held the world record in the 100 fly. He has also coached college swimmers at the University of Texas and spent time with some of the best athletes in the world. However, that was not what struck me about him, he now coaches age group swimmers. As my family and I were leaving the swimposium, Ian was walking out as well. There,  I asked him about his decision to coach age group swimmers as opposed to the Olympic and college swimmers. He explained that he is happier coaching the younger kids because they are excited about swim and have so much energy. A very down to earth and personable guy, he had found his task in life! Hopefully we can all find our life's task!

Pray that all of us can be followers of Jesus, that we find our life's task, and that we find happiness in the things we do. Remember that happiness many times comes from the places that you least expect it.

Pray for Dr. Serbinowska and her family.

Uncorked 2017
SAVE THE DATE

On November 18, 2017, Saint Joseph Catholic Schools will continue its annual tradition of wine tasting with Uncorked: Purple Rain. Set against our new back drop at HUB 801, this year's wine choices are a tribute to the vineyards found along the rugged coastlines, sparkling streams, jagged mountains, and rolling green valleys of the Pacific Northwest. At precisely 6:30pm, the wines will be uncorked, and the beer tapped, accompanied by scrumptious hors d'oeuvers. We promise you will not go home hungry. And to keep with tradition, we will be offering several enticing silent auction items.

Please look for your invitation in the mail!
