    From The Desk of.....

In August, before students return to school, the High School Leadership Team, which consists of administrators and department chairs from each subject area, gather to review student performance data.  During this data retreat, we reflect on the goals we set as a building and as departments, then review how our students performed on the high stakes exams, ACT, ASPIRE and the Forward Exam, which were taken in the spring.   Like most industries, Central strives to be data driven to produce a better result.  This exam data is used to determine where our students performed well and what needs additional attention as we strive to maximize student learning, and ultimately, their performance on these exams.

We understand the importance of these exams, not only as college entrance tests scores for students, but also as indicators of school quality, as reported by the State using the School Report Card system.  However, as important as these scores are, we also understand that single test scores do not encapsulate the high school experience for students.  We know there are many valuable experiences and learning opportunities that are not measured on these exams.  This is why, as a school, we are committed to offering students an expansive list of courses outside core academic areas, a large number of extra-curricular organizations, and a full range of athletic opportunities.  We know that while these opportunities will not be reflected in our rating as a school, they are essential in helping our students become well rounded, career-focused, and future ready.

A shout out to the collective network of people (school staff, families, local businesses) that help our students be the best they can be!

Have a great October!

      CHS Homecoming - 2017

Homecoming 2017 for Central is always an exciting and busy few days during our fall semester. This year is no exception with many activities planned.

Please view the attached calendar of events for this coming week's events.

 Featured Department of the Month

Each month during the coming year, we will focus on one or two departments in the high school with an effort to provide more information on the course offerings and exciting learning activities that are occurring.  This month's department is Technology Education Department.

Anonymous Alerts Available for Student Body

Last year we introduced a new communications tool called Anonymous Alerts that was first available to our students last September.

Anonymous Alerts will allow students or parents to quickly, easily and confidentially report bullying, harassment and other sensitive topics through private messages to school officials through the website Anonymous Alerts (click link). A significant number of alerts were forwarded to administration last year that allowed them to work through some important issues, all for the benefit, safety, and well-being of our students.

The link to access Anonymous Alerts may be found on the CHS app.  You will see the link with the words Report Bullying. Click on that link to take you directly to the App.

Central High School
Annual Meeting of Electorate

Tuesday, October 27th will be the Annual  Meeting of the Electorate as the board reviews the budget and asks for public support from the public to approve the 2017-2018 school year budget.

This annual event must occur prior to the end of October. It is at that time that the board is required by state statute to set the levy for the school year.

We encourage all of our parents, and community members who do not have children in the high school, to attend this important meeting.

              School Board Recognition

The Wisconsin Association of School Boards has set aside October 1-7 as Wisconsin School Board week as a time to build awareness and understanding of the vital function an elected board of education plays in our communities. This is our opportunity to honor our local board members for their commitment to our community and our students.

For anyone who has served on committees or board, you know the countless hours it takes to ensure success with your committee's purpose and goals.  School board members quickly recognize the many challenges and opportunities they will have to provide a positive experience for our students, staff, parents and community.

We pay special thanks to our seven board members for all they do:  Ms. Charlene Brandes, President, Mr. Steven Richter, Vice President, Ms. Cheryl Baysinger, Clerk, Ms. Mary Ellen Pearsall Treasurer and board members Dustin Beth, Karen Shoopman and Terry Simmons.

Thank you board members.
