DragonTales  Weekly Newsletter
October 12, 2017

Dear St George Families,

          Parent -Teacher conferences, this Friday and next Monday, are some of the most important days of the school year.  Your child's education is a partnership between parents, teachers - and students.
            We see more and more newspaper articles stating that students are not prepared for college.  The feedback that I receive from our Catholic High Schools and other high schools that our St. George students are very well prepared for high school.
            St. George students are well prepared for high school - and beyond - because of the solid foundation they receive at St. George.  Elementary schools really are the foundation of education and if students do not have a solid foundation after 8th grade, they will not be prepared for advanced math or science classes or challenging literature classes in high school or college.
            We are building a foundation with your children.  A solid foundation built today means better building blocks can be added in the future.  It is important that we do the small things to create that solid foundation:
  • Check homework to make sure it is complete;
  • Make sure that your children know the basics in math and grammar;

  • Make school and schoolwork a priority: do not use conference days as vacation time or pull your children out of school for extended weekends or vacation time;
  • Be supportive of teachers and work with them to ensure kids are doing what they are supposed to do;

  • Make school work a priority over extracurricular activities. These activities are great but schoolwork should come first.
If we stick to our standards - both at school and at home - our kids will be beneficiaries in the long run.  They will build a future with confidence because of that solid foundation.

God Bless you and your family!
Jack Nelson
